Ron Phua Kuan Haw, 41-years-old, pleaded guilty to 2 counts of harassment and using criminal force on a public servant, as well as a count of mischief.
He had verbally abused police with vulgarities on 2 separate occasions, insulting Malays on one occasion to a female police officer.
He was sentenced to 9 weeks imprisonment on 15 July.
What happened?
Phua was drinking at a bar at Macpherson Mall on 29 November 2019 when he left a bit after midnight.
The owner of the bar found his hat and asked another man to return it to Phua.
Phua was seen at a carpark at around 12.40am hitting a nets machine repeatedly with a book before leaving.
A security guard checked the ATM machine and found that it was damage and had to be replaced in the end.
Phua then discharged a fire extinguisher at the mall and the security guard informed the police.
The police arrived to arrest him but he refused to cooperate.
He used vulgarities on them as they were escorting him to the car.
On a separate occasion, on 21 December at around 1.20am, 2 police officers were patrolling a carpark at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1.
They then spotted Phua sleeping inside his van.
They woke him up and asked for his IC, and while they were recording his particulars, Phua suddenly alighted from the van, standing unsteadily.
The police asked him if he drank alcohol but he ignored her and walked away.
The officers then stopped him and he admitted to drinking some alcohol.
Phua was smoking at the time and blew smoke at one of the police officer’s face, before using his finger to poke her left shoulder and used vulgarities on her.
He then flicked his lit cigarette’s embers at her face as the two officers tried to detain him.
As he was being escorted inside the police car, he made a remark inside the vehicle insulting Malays.
He is due to start his jail sentence on 10 August.
