Instagram user @anotherbel, posted a TikTok video where she poked fun at the Thais and Vietnamese following the emergence of the KTV cluster,
She was also seen in a separate video where she laughed off the hate comments that came her way following the intense backlash that she received for her video, challenging netizens to come and “piak” her on Instagram.
She has since come out with an apology video, to publicly apologise for her video.
She admitted that she was very naive in not knowing the meaning of “siam diu”, and accepted that it was different from KTV.
She captioned her apology video:
“I’m sorry
Hi everybody, I want to address the issue of the video I posted on 16 July 2021. I apologise for hurting or causing any disdain among nationalities, and I would like to clarify that my choice of words do not represent Singapore’s views.
My sole intention was to bring laughter to the community in light of the pandemic, however I understand that my choice of topic was wildly insensitive and inappropriate.
I am very sorry, and I will strive to be better in the future.”
At the time of writing, the video in question is still visible on her profile, and she has clarified that she does not believe in “hiding (her) mistakes and pretending they didn’t happen”.
