MAN INVESTIGATED FOR COMPUTER MISUSE ACT, DELETED COMPANY RECORDS

According to a Police media release, a 39-year-old man is currently under investigation under the Computer Misuse Act offence.

The 39-year-old allegedly gained access to his former employer’s computer server and deleted 190 records. The deletion resulted in the company not being able to fulfil their customers’ orders.

The company reported the incident to the Police on 29th July 2021 and the man was arrested the next day. Officers from Woodlands Division who are on the case investigated the incident and they were able to find out the culprit and arrested the man within 24 hours.

The individual is helping the cops with their inquiries. Unauthorized alteration of computer material is punishable under Section 5(1) of the Computer Misuse Act by up to three years in jail, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.

For a second or subsequent conviction, individuals face a fine of up to $20,000, a sentence of up to five years in prison, or both.
