6 MEN ARRESTED FOR RIOTING ALONG YISHUN STREET 11

Six males, aged 19 to 27, have been detained for their alleged involvement in a rioting incident.

On 7 August 2021 at about 12.20 am, the Police received a call for assistance regarding a commotion along Yishun Street 11 involving a large group of people. When officers arrived, a 26-year-old man was found to be injured and was conveyed to the hospital.

Officers from the Woodlands Police Division manage to uncover the identities of the six males allegedly involved through follow-up investigations and on-the-ground inquiries, and they were arrested on the same day.

On 7 August 2021, one of the males, aged 24, was charged with rioting under Section 147 of the Penal Code, while the other five men were charged with the same offence on 9 August 2021.

The crime carries a penalty of up to seven years in jail and caning.

The group are also being investigated for allegedly violating the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.

Offenders who violate the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020 may face a six-month prison sentence, a fine of up to S$10,000, or both if they do not comply with safe distancing measures.
