Former actor Huang Yiliang, also known as Ng Aik Leong, is set to begin his prison sentence for assaulting a worker, after he had his appeals dismissed by the judge in court.
He was previously convicted at trial for assaulting a Bangladeshi worker at the Singapore Islamic Hub in 2018.
Huang was then told about the verdict by a Mandarin interpreter and relayed the judge’s question to him, asking him if he wanted to go to jail immediately or have his sentence deferred.
He then shook his head in silence, deciding to start his sentence immediately.
Huang’s sentence of 10 months imprisonment for one count of voluntarily causing hurt using a dangerous weapon was upheld by Justice Aedit Abdullah.
He was also ordered to pay the victim $3,300 in compensation for his salary and the suffering caused; failure to do so will see him serve another 3 weeks in prison in default.
What happened?
Huang had attacked the worker with a heavy metal scraper on December 11, 2018, because he was annoyed that the victim didn’t use enough string to fasten a plastic bag to a rubbish pail when cleaning a ventilation duct in a canteen area.
Huang claimed that the victim was asking him to beat him and teach him because he learned how to throw fake punches during his days as an actor.
He was adamant that he did not actually hit the victim, saying that he was the real victim and that he was being framed by the worker.
