Bungee jumping is undoubtedly a thrill that appeals to adrenaline junkies, but it’s not everyone’s idea of a good time.

For local Ah Beng comedian Mayiduo, he found himself on the precipice, poised to leap into the abyss. Why? Because he made a promise during a Shopee livestream that if he achieved a certain sales target, he would take the plunge.

The Comedian Behind the Dare

Mayiduo, whose real name is Kelvin Tan, is not just your typical comedian. He also wears the hat of a Shopee spokesperson.

You might recognize him from Shopee’s advertising campaign for their 9.9 Super Shopping Day, where he shared the screen with influencer XiaXue.

But he didn’t stop at mere endorsements; Mayiduo hosted a live stream for the e-commerce giant, where he showcased and promoted various products.

Setting the Target

During this more than two-hour-long livestream, Mayiduo set an ambitious sales target of S$99,000. However, he sweetened the deal by making a bold promise: if he reached this target, he would go bungee jumping.

This unexpected twist generated a buzz among the viewers, and they responded enthusiastically by making purchases.

He eventually managed to exceed the sales target of $99,000, accumulating an impressive S$102,000 worth of sales. As the numbers rolled in, he knew he had to honor his commitment to bungee jump. The date was set for Saturday, September 9th, at SkyPark by AJ Hackett in Sentosa.

Confronting Fear

With the jump looming ahead, Mayiduo couldn’t hide his nerves. He admitted that the thought of bungee jumping was “a little scary.”

Standing on the edge of the platform with the entirety of his 108kg frame, he nervously chuckled, perhaps trying to mask his anxiety.

He even attempted to reassure others who were about to jump alongside him, possibly seeking solace in their shared trepidation.

As he peered into the void below, the comedian might have regretted agreeing to this daring feat. Nevertheless, he decided to document the experience by live-streaming the jump.

Before taking the plunge, he uttered, “I love my mum. I love my kid. I a bit regret.” Despite his misgivings, he bravely counted down from five and shouted the Shopee 9.9 slogan.

During his descent, Mayiduo couldn’t contain his emotions. He screamed, cursed, and swore, all while hurtling towards the ground.

In an unexpected twist, he also serenaded the audience with Shopee’s Super Shopping Day song. Though he successfully survived the ordeal, he vowed, in Mandarin, never to attempt such a feat again.
