In the world of taxi driving, where every fare counts, an unusual incident unfolded recently that left one cabby in disbelief.
C. K. Tiong, a seasoned taxi driver, took to social media to share his encounter with a passenger who allegedly ran off without paying her fare.
A Shocking Encounter
It all began on a regular Saturday when Tiong picked up a passenger from Sengkang East Way. The passenger, described as a young and petite “ah lian,” provided minimal information, merely giving him the address as they approached their destination.
Upon arriving at 311A Anchorvale Lane, the passenger, without hesitation, refused to pay the $8.15 fare for the 5 minute journey. She accused Tiong trying to inflate the taxi fare by making an additional turn, a claim he vehemently denied.
In an attempt to resolve the situation, Tiong warned the passenger that he would involve the police if she didn’t settle the fare promptly. However, the passenger had other plans.
A Twist in the Tale
While waiting for the police to arrive, the fare-evading passenger decided to make a daring move—she ran off, leaving Tiong in a state of disbelief. He couldn’t believe the audacity of this passenger, whom he later described as “bodoh to the max” on social media.
To ensure that the fare kept accumulating during this ordeal, Tiong kept the taxi meter running for approximately 45 minutes until the police finally arrived. When the receipt was issued, the fare had escalated to $21.70. However, this was far from the end of the story.
The police officers, responding to the incident, tried to reach the woman several times, urging her to resolve the matter amicably. However, she stubbornly refused to cooperate and “settle the problem,” according to Tiong.
Faced with this uncooperative passenger, the police advised Tiong to make an official police report.
