A 50 year old flight attendant whose name and company was not mentioned in court documents was convicted today (17 Jan) for molesting a fellow stewardess in-flight from Singapore to Philippines.
He was found guilty of outraging the modesty of the flight stewardess who is 27 years old.
His actions
The stewardess was talking to a passenger in the business class cabin when the accused walked pass her and smack her bottom.
He was her direct superior on the flight and he smacked her bottom jokingly telling her not to ‘stand like this’ in a way which was meant to be playful.
She was standing slightly bent forward at the time when the incident happened.
He defended his actions by saying that he only tapped the right side of her pelvis and saw her posture as ‘provocative’ as her bottoms were protruding out.
He added that he was only trying to correct her posture.
Informed her leading steward
The stewardess did not confront him directly as she was in a state of shock because of his actions and was still attending to the passenger.
She told her leading steward what happened and also messaged her ward leader during transit to say that the accused had touched her intentionally by giving her a hard slap on her bottom.
Her words to describe the molestation were, ‘intentional, it was not a grope or an accidental touch, but a hard slap’.
Accused apologised for his actions
The accused apologised to her while the crew were preparing to receive the next set of passengers on the flight back to Singapore, claiming that he had ‘no intention’ to do it.
However, he could not answer when she asked him what other intention he could have had when he did it.
The stewardess was then deployed to economy class during the return flight and he approached her again to apologise in the presence of other crew.
She also asked him to spell out what he was apologising for in front of them and told him that she could tell from his unapologetic face that this was not his first time doing so.
Hearing this, he swore on his religious materials and on his mother that this was the first time he did so.
However, he admitted that he hit her bottoms during the confrontation.
Report lodged
The stewardess lodged a report upon her landing into Singapore.
Penalties
The accused will go back to court in March for mitigation and his sentencing.
For his offence of outrage of modesty, the penalties are a jail term of up to two years and/or a fine.
As he is above 50, he will be spared caning.
