My husband loaned his sister a little over $300,000 because she wanted to start a business. It has been 5 years and we haven’t seen a single cent back.
Her business is running successfully so it’s not like she blew it away.
Whenever I ask my husband to talk to his sister about the money he loaned her, he would tell me to chill and change the topic immediately. When I corner him, he would tell me that it’s a small amount and he won’t lose his sleep over it, and ask me to drop the topic altogether.
It got to a point where I felt I should step in and ask her myself, so I did last week and she told me that my husband told her that the money was a gift to her and not a loan. I thought she was joking, but she wasn’t.
I immediately confronted my husband and his face said it all. He has been lying to me for the past 5 years because he knew I wouldn’t approve of the gift.
This has caused me some serious trusting issues, so I told him that I can’t trust him with anything anymore, and he thinks I’m overreacting and being an asshole for no reason.
It’s his own hard-earned money and not mine. Besides, I signed a prenup with an alimony waiver so it’s not about the money.
