MOTHER’S BF CHEATING AND HITS DAUGHTER, MOTHER STILL KEEPS HIM AROUND

My mother’s bf (57) “Kevin” moved in with us about two-ish years ago. We got along well as we have some of the same interests (horror, games, movies, anime), and he clearly makes my mother happier than I’ve seen her in years. He even gave her a pseudo-engagement ring. Like an engaged to be engaged thing. Very cute tbh.

My parents split when I was twelve due to my dad’s infidelity. They’ve since made peace and are cordially, and he’s happy my mother found love again. So was I. WAS.

For a while, I’ve noticed Kevin leaving the house more frequently, dressing almost too nicely, and wearing enough cologne to choke the air conditioner. He said he was going to meet friends or handle work-related stuff, but a voice in the back of my and mother’s mind said he was doing something(one) else. My mother was right there with me with her suspicion that “something just didn’t feel right” but she kept her thoughts to herself. For years she’s said how she’d never be with lying cheating man again.

To no one’s surprise, Kevin IS cheating on my mother. Has FOR OVER A YEAR! My mother found out from romantic cards in the office. She was already throwing his stuff in bags when I woke up. She was ready to boot him and be done. I was at work when she confronted him. What she told me: Kevin broke down crying and told her the woman was just a close friend. Mother wasn’t convinced and neither was I.

A month later, two new cards were found with the woman’s signature and “I enjoy our mornings together” written inside. Platonic friend, my a**. My mother had been working out a plan for when the other shoe dropped and she would make him leave for good with the homewrecker (the other woman knows but doesn’t care). We 99% of cooking and cleaning while he…barely does 1%. I bet he cried because he doesn’t want to lose how comfy life is for him here.

Now, instead of kicking Kevin to the curb, she told him she knew and they’re trying to work through it. When she told me, I said was furious. She’s going back on EVERYTHING she ever said and was ready to be done with him. After he lied to her face?

Her last bf was a world-class AH. I hated every day he lived with us since he verbally and nearly physically hit me. I wanted him gone in more ways than one. My mental health hasn’t been the same since. I told my mother I can’t live in a house walking on eggshells anymore. She’s trying to forgive him, but I can’t. I’ve seen her hurt too many times to see it happen again.

Idc if I have to live in my car, I’m REFUSE to live like this again and I told her as much. Also, she told me they had SSS ONCE in their two years since she put on weight and caught him leaving more than a few times without underwear on… Yeah. Definitely booty calls.
