Amos Yee Allegedly Assaulted By Cosplayer At Singapore Anime Convention In Suntec City
Convicted child sex offender Amos Yee was allegedly assaulted by another attendee during an anime convention held at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre on May 9.
Videos circulating online showed the 27-year-old crouching on the ground outside the convention hall while a cosplayer dressed as Yuji Itadori from the anime series “Jujutsu Kaisen” repeatedly punched and kicked him.
The incident reportedly took place at around 12:30pm during Doujin Market 2026, a two-day anime and fan culture event held from May 9 to 10 at Suntec City.
Footage from the scene quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing strong reactions from members of Singapore’s anime and cosplay community.
Organisers Had Earlier Cancelled Amos Yee’s Tickets
Prior to the incident, Yee had posted publicly on X that he intended to attend the anime convention.
However, organisers of Doujin Market 2026 later announced they had cancelled his tickets following concerns raised by attendees and members of the community.
According to statements posted online, organisers said they were also working to ban him from future events.
Despite the cancellation, Yee reportedly still appeared at the venue and was spotted by convention-goers inside the event area.
He later continued posting updates and photographs from the convention on social media before the confrontation allegedly occurred.
Attacker Claims Molestation Attempt Took Place
Following the altercation, the alleged attacker uploaded an Instagram Story claiming he witnessed Yee allegedly attempting to molest another attendee during the convention.
The cosplayer claimed he confronted Yee and tried to force him to leave the venue, but alleged that Yee became aggressive and attacked him first.
He said he retaliated in self-defence.
No official confirmation has yet been issued regarding the molestation allegation, and the circumstances surrounding the confrontation remain unclear.
Yee later posted photographs of himself online showing what appeared to be injuries, including a bloodied upper lip.
Police Yet To Release Full Details
At the time of reporting, Singapore police had not publicly confirmed whether any arrests were made or whether investigations into the alleged assault were ongoing.
The incident has reignited public debate surrounding Yee’s appearance at public events in Singapore. Yee has remained a controversial figure for years following his earlier criminal convictions involving child sexual exploitation offences in the United States.
The situation also sparked broader discussions online about event security, attendee safety and how convention organisers handle controversial personalities attending large fan gatherings.
Many anime convention attendees expressed concern over the escalating tensions at the event, especially given the large crowds present at the convention venue throughout the day.
