The 2 men and 1 woman, aged between 25 and 39, stole Singapore currency totaling $5,000, $6,000 in US curency, other currencies and jewelry. They are responsible for at least 12 theft cases islandwide, with most of their crimes committed by sleight of hand.
Their standard tactic would be to approach cashiers and ask to change their larger notes to smaller denominations. When the cashiers did so, they would steal from the cash registers using a sleight of hand trick. They also used the same tactic on a goldsmith and stole a gold chai.
The trio entered Singapore on social visit passes. They will be charged in court tomorrow.
If convicted, they face a fined and/or imprisonment for up to three years.
