A TikToker from Taiwan took to the streets of Singapore and asked the women here about their thoughts on Singaporean husbands.
The TikToker, @lisijie37, interviewed an auntie near a newspaper stand at the People’s Park Complex in Chinatown, and it quickly captured the hearts of netizens online.
In a brief 15-second video clip shared by the TikToker on June 9, 2023, an interviewer confirmed the interviewee’s Singaporean nationality.
The interviewer posed a question, asking, “What are your opinions on Singaporean men?”
The woman displayed a visible frown and shook her head in response, telling the interviewer that she doesn’t dare to say it now.
She hesitated to answer, but before she could elaborate, the interviewer interjected with another query, asking if she was married to a Singaporean man.
The interviewee confirmed this by nodding.
The video then transitioned to a later moment, where the woman averted her gaze momentarily, seemingly searching for the right words. She eventually stated matter-of-factly, “Singaporean husbands don’t contribute to household chores.”
Following up on her previous response, the interviewer inquired about her preference for marrying men from other countries, given the choice again.
Her eyes widened, and she replied, “I would rather not get married at all!”
With a final gesture using her hands, she walked away, signifying that her response was definitive.
Within a span of 15 hours since its upload, the video gained significant traction on the platform, accumulating over 400,000 views, 20,000 likes, and 800 comments.
Numerous commenters expressed admiration for the woman, asserting that she voiced sentiments shared by many married women secretly. Others found her honesty endearing and considered her response impressive.
