AUNTIE SHOUT AT GUY IN MRT FOR NOT GIVING UP SEAT, “PRETEND USE PHONE NEVER SEE ME!”

Has anyone encountered any public disturbance or shouting incident on the MRT before? So far it has happened twice to me.

Incident 1: I got shouted at yesterday evening around 7-ish pm on the MRT towards Jurong East on the East-West line by an entitled lady who seems to be in her late 40s or 50s for not giving up my seat, I was using my phone and listening to music so I didn’t notice her, if she asked or have gotten my attention I would have given up my seat. I was sitting on one of the 2 seaters near the door of the MRT and i wasn’t sitting on the reserve seat at that time. She then went to shout at me which I didn’t notice at first as I was listening to my music on my headphones until my fellow passenger who is a young lady sitting next to me pointed out at me, then started making a scene complaining to the other passengers about me shouting loudly something along the lines in Chinese “pretend to use phone never see me”

To be honest I got abit triggered as I really didn’t notice her or hear her making a commotion but since I am getting off at the next stop(Jurong East) I decided to just bear the brunt of her tirade, it was quite embarrassing as everyone was staring at me like I was the bad guy and another passenger in her 50s came up to us and my fellow passenger and told us not to sit at the 2 seaters next time as it’s “reserved” for senior citizens, at that point I can’t be bothered and just nodded to her as I just want to leave the train asap because my anxiety is getting the better of me. The screaming lady last words when I left the train was “your mother never teach you ah”.

I wondered if anyone here witnessed the incident yesterday? I would also like to thank the young lady sitting next to me for pointing out to me and saying words of encouragement after we alighted at the same station.

Incident 2: The previous incident I encountered was on the circle line a few months ago where there was a lady who seemed to be in her 40s suffering from a mental health issue scolding and shouting at all the young women in their 20s on the train saying something along the lines of “just because she is younger… You choose her” and telling fellow passengers that she will become the “prime ministeress of Singapore”. The poor lady probably got affected by an affair by her husband or something. Thankfully there were transcomm police officers on the train to make sure the situation didn’t escalate to anything more serious and the police officers went after her after she alighted at Paya Lebar.
