In a shocking turn of events, Thai authorities have revealed that six foreigners, including two American dual nationals and four Vietnamese nationals, found dead in a luxury hotel room in Bangkok may have been poisoned with cyanide. The bodies were discovered by a maid on Tuesday when the guests failed to check out, with the door to the room at the Grand Hyatt Erawan locked from the inside.

Preliminary autopsy results have shown traces of cyanide in the victims’ teacups, a tea flask, and the blood of one of the deceased men. While the full autopsy report is expected on Thursday, police have ruled out a mass suicide, citing the fact that the bodies were found in different parts of the room and that the group had arranged activities with guides and drivers.

The investigation has also revealed that four of the six victims had invested money together, and there may have been a dispute over debt relating to the investment, which was intended to build a hospital in Japan. However, authorities have assured that the incident is not related to terrorism or a breach in security, and a conference with Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev scheduled to take place at the hotel later on Wednesday will proceed as planned.

The victims, aged between 37 and 56, were last seen alive on Monday afternoon when staff brought food and drinks to the room. CCTV footage shows the six entering the room before closing the door for the last time. The Thai Prime Minister has contacted the United States and Vietnamese embassies, and the FBI is en route to investigate the incident.

This is not the first time cyanide poisoning has been linked to a high-profile case in Thailand. In 2023, a serial killer known as “Am Cyanide” was charged with poisoning 15 people with the deadly chemical over several years, killing at least 14 people whom she owed money to.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident. The discovery of cyanide in the hotel room has raised many questions, and the public is eagerly awaiting the results of the full autopsy report and further developments in the case.
