A hawker stall in Bedok North, Xian Jin Mixed Vegetable Rice, have been keeping their prices stable for the last 18 years, maintaining it at $2 for a three-dish economy rice meal.
Shin Min Daily News reported that the stall hasn’t raised prices since they started running their business about 18 years ago.
The boss of the stall, said that she kept the prices low because there are many elderly residents living in the area, and she does it for them despite not making much money off it.
She was asked if she is able to make a profit from her business, to which she replied that she is not making a loss at the moment.
Her signboard has also not been changed since the business started 18 years ago.
About 6 to 7 customers were seen queueing up at her stall when a reporter from SMDN paid her stall a visit on 3 February.
Customers can expect to queue for about 30 mins during meal periods, and the stall sells a variety of other dishes at $2 per serving.
They also sell food items such as Bak Kut Teh, Seafood Soup, Porridge and Fish Soup, and they are open on the weekdays from 8am to 3pm.
