Woman Allegedly Throws Scissors From 8th Floor HDB Corridor In Bedok North, Police Report Filed
A woman was allegedly caught on camera throwing a pair of metal scissors from the eighth floor of an HDB block in Bedok North, sparking concern among residents over public safety in Singapore estates.
The incident reportedly took place in the early morning of May 19 and was later shared on social media through the Instagram account “@sgfollowsall”. According to the footage, the woman was seen walking around the corridor before approaching several flower pots placed along the parapet area outside a residential unit.
She allegedly removed a pair of scissors that had been left inside one of the pots before tossing the item off the block. Thankfully, nobody was injured during the incident.
The alarming act has since led to a police report being lodged, with many Singaporeans online calling for stricter enforcement against dangerous behaviour involving high-rise littering and reckless acts in HDB estates.
CCTV Footage Captures Woman Throwing Object From Height
In the video circulating online, the woman appeared to be casually strolling along the corridor at around 6.25am before stopping near the row of flower pots.
She was then seen picking up the scissors and throwing them over the parapet from the eighth floor before calmly walking away towards the lift lobby area.
The original uploader of the footage urged the public to think carefully before committing such acts, warning that throwing objects from a height could easily result in severe injuries or fatalities.
In Singapore, offences involving dangerous acts in public housing estates are taken seriously, especially when objects are thrown from high-rise buildings. Depending on the severity of the case, offenders could potentially face investigation under laws related to rash acts, public nuisance, or even high-rise littering offences.
The case has also renewed discussions surrounding home safety, estate surveillance systems, and the importance of neighbourhood vigilance within HDB communities.
Netizens Slam Behaviour, Some Question Why Scissors Were Left Outside
Online reactions were largely critical, with many netizens expressing anger over the woman’s actions and urging authorities to intervene quickly before a more serious incident occurs.
Several commenters highlighted that even a relatively small object like a pair of scissors could become deadly when thrown from a height. Others feared the individual may repeat similar behaviour in future incidents.
At the same time, some questioned why a sharp object had been left in an easily accessible location along the corridor. However, many others responded that the responsibility still rested heavily on the individual who decided to throw the item.
The incident comes shortly after another viral case in Ang Mo Kio, where an elderly woman was allegedly caught on CCTV throwing her neighbours’ shoes down an HDB block following a dispute involving a personal mobility device (PMD).
That earlier incident also resulted in a police report being filed, though it remains unclear whether enforcement action was eventually taken.
Concerns Grow Over Dangerous Behaviour In Residential Estates
The latest Bedok North case has once again raised concerns about anti-social behaviour in densely populated residential estates across Singapore.
With many HDB blocks housing hundreds of residents, reckless actions involving thrown objects can pose major risks to pedestrians, children, and vehicles below. Even relatively lightweight items can cause serious injury when dropped from upper floors.
Residents have increasingly turned to CCTV cameras and social media platforms to document and report such incidents, helping authorities identify individuals involved in potentially dangerous acts.
At the time of writing, the police have yet to provide further updates regarding investigations into the Bedok North incident.
