BEWARE! KANGAROO BRAND RICE GOT MAGGOTS

312312312231Posting on behalf of my mother to give a heads up to people who consume the low GI Rice by Kangaroo Brand that was bought from Isetan at Westgate recently on Friday, 7 September 2018.

She was about preparing rice for cooking when she discovered both dead and live maggots crawling around the rice grains. You can see the live maggot wriggling about in the video, as well as some other dead ones in the next picture. On further inspection, there was also a rotten smell emanating from the rice grains. You can only imagine how disgusting it was.

When we went to Isetan at Westgate to get it exchanged, we went to look at the other packets of rice and true enough, there were maggots in them as well. All of these packets are of the same expiry date, in February 2020, so I believe this might be a common occurrence for this particular batch of rice.

We went to an NTUC outlet near our house as well to check if the other packets had similar issues, but the ones that were on the shelves there were expiring in July 2020, and we couldn’t really detect any maggots in those packets.

It is amazing how the Feb 2020 batch stayed on the shelves in the Isetan outlet at Westgate, yet NTUC is selling the July 2020 batch that looks decent to me. Obviously somewhere something went wrong, and I am throughly disgusted by this whole experience, so much so that I have felt like puking since late afternoon thinking about it.

Hoping to hear from Isetan soon…
