A netizen shared his experience after crashing his Blue SG car into another car with a family of 5 inside at the time.

Here is the story:

I want to share my experience.

Got into an accident on 6th Feb 2022 Sunday night at around 9:15pm, along the T junction of Yishun Ave 8 and 9. This date is also Lunar New Year Day 6.

The drizzle ended. Road surface was wet. The vehicle infront of me looked like it was going to roll past the traffic light when Amber flashed. However he braked. My braking was too late. I braked hard and steered left.

I knocked into his rear bumper. (Picture as attached).

[Before you all want to ask for number to buy 4D, his car plate number is censored. You all can buy the BSG that I crashed.]

The airbag was deployed and it was an experience to remember.

Thankfully I am still alive to remember it.

The car in front of me carried 5 lives.

A couple, and their 3 young children.

I was alone in the Blue SG car.

I gathered my composure, pressed the hazard light. Sent a voice message to inform my family, and exit the car.

This is clearly my fault. Given that I was the one that knocked him from the Rear. I should have kept a safer braking distance. I have learnt my lesson.

The car owner was composed too. I went forward to see his car and passengers.

I was so guilty when I saw 2 of his kids and his wife were startled and had tears in their eyes. I apologised profusely, especially to the kids who were seated at the rear. They must have been shocked from the impact.

We were all thankful no one was injured.

We exchanged contact details, took each other’s phone number, and also take photo of our NRIC. Also took video and photo of the scene.

As no one was injured, and no public property was damaged, there was no need to call the police – as confirmed by the Blue SG Customer Service Officer.

The owner checked his car, although it sounded funny (today he said that it is likely from the damaged exhaust) he could still drive it off.

He drove off about 10 mins after the impact, while I stayed back, communicated with BSG CS as they paged for a Tow Truck.

Was advised to deploy the Red Triangle from the boot by CSO. But it was not available.

The wait for the tow truck was 1hr 45 mins.

Just my luck on a Sunday night of CNY.

The accident was along lane 1 (left) and I pushed the car slightly further inwards to the road side.

I stood by the road side and guided oncoming traffic to steer away from Lane 1 with my mobile phone’s flash light.

Didn’t help that the hazard light died after about 45 mins after the impact.

Today, as per the law, I went down to the Accident Reporting Centre at Defu Lane, with my driver’s license, NRIC and all the photos and footage in my phone (all required).

The whole reporting process was about 25 mins for my case. You will be required to sketch up the scene and write a 1 page report of what happened.

I have been told that it takes about 2 weeks for BlueSG to advise me the cost/damage/excess for the damaged car.

And the insurance from the other party could take up to months to be settled.

Nobody ever wishes to get into an accident, but accidents do happen, regardless of your no. of years of driving experience. And we all pray that no bodily harm and no lives to be lost at all.

After this experience, I will be even more careful, regardless day or night, rain or shine driving.

The BSG car fleets’ insurance is under Liberty Insurance.

Perhaps along the way, I can update you guys on this post about how things develop. Eg the cost of the BSG claim, and also from the other party’s damage.

I have been told that the excess charges changes between 2 age bands: above or below 27 years old; and whether you have 2 years or more of driving experience.

No point guesstimating the total bill now.

I am just glad no one was hurt

My intention to share my accident experience here with other fellow BlueSG users is to increase awareness and also share how one can respond in an accident. [Of course, again, I don’t wish this upon any one of you!!!!]

I wish all of you safe road usage and safe road passages always
