In an unexpected turn of events, a BlueSG customer recently found himself facing a hefty bill of $9,200 after a minor accident.
Ryan Chow, a 24-year-old insurance agent, expressed his frustration, deeming the bill unjust and excessive. This incident has garnered significant attention and raises concerns about the fairness of such charges.
A Costly Surprise
Chow’s ordeal began when he got into an accident in June last year, where he accidentally bumped into the rear of a food delivery rider’s motorcycle while driving at a speed of less than 10km/hour in Geylang, which he described as being slower than walking.
Despite the slow speed and the fact that the rider remained unharmed, BlueSG handed Chow a bill for $9,200 in August. This bill included an $8,000 charge for a third-party damage claim and an additional $1,200 labeled as an “administration fee”.
Chow was left in disbelief, considering the extent of the damage, which he believed could be fixed for a mere $200. The exorbitant bill led him to reach out to BlueSG and request a detailed breakdown of the charges, but he allegedly received no response.
Threatens to sue him
To make matters worse, the electric car-sharing company has threatened legal action if Chow does not settle the bill within seven days. This aggressive stance added to the already growing discontent.
Ryan Chow’s case is not isolated. He was motivated to “expose” the electric car-sharing company after hearing about similar incidents from other customers. This highlights a concerning pattern that is raising questions about the company’s billing and customer relations.
Chow’s experience with BlueSG has been anything but pleasant. He noted that BlueSG and the delivery rider did not engage in direct communication regarding compensation. Instead, the rider insisted on claiming from insurance instead, leaving Chow feeling unresolved and unsatisfied.
BlueSG’s Response
In response to the allegations, the head of BlueSG’s Singapore office, Ms Jenny Lim, refuted Chow’s claims regarding the $9,200 charges. According to Lim, the $8,000 charge was for “inexperienced drivers access,” designed for claims paid by BlueSG to third parties for personal injury or property damage (the delivery rider in this situation). Lim emphasized that this fee is clearly stated in BlueSG’s terms and conditions.
Lim also mentioned that their claims team has been in communication with Chow, with the last correspondence taking place just last week.
