A couple of videos emerged online showing a heated confrontation between a BMW driver and a taxi uncle, in an incident that happened on 28 January at about 9.45am.

In the first video that surfaced yesterday, the taxi uncle was seen confronting the BMW driver and calling him out for pointing middle finger and allegedly trying to knock him down.

The BMW driver then remained inside his car as his passenger filmed the taxi driver.

Another video of the same incident has since emerged, from the POV of the BMW driver, who attempted to explain his side of the story.

BMW’s side of the story

The BMW driver said:

“I am the driver of the white BMW vehicle in the video and would like to set the record straight on this matter.

On that day, I was driving my sister to school and had to switch lanes to turn left to a side road. I was in the second lane from the left and signaled left when we were waiting at a traffic light.

When the lights turned green, I switched lanes as intended when there was a gap between the uncle’s taxi and the vehicle in front of him.

The taxi accelerated, braked hard and horned incessantly, holding the horn down for lengthy periods. After turning left, I had to keep right to turn into the school.

The uncle accelerated rapidly in a school zone and cut from the left lane into my lane and braked hard in front of my car, causing me to apply emergency brakes to avoid hitting the taxi.

The uncle aggressively rapped on my car window and continued haranguing and accusing me of being rude and showing him a middle finger.

By this time, the uncle also started taking a video himself and called my sister rude for taking a video of him. In a bid to resolve the matter, I apologised to the uncle but he said “sorry no cure” and continued shouting at us until the police arrived.

I then sought advice on the phone regarding the situation and was advised to stay calm, not alight from the car, not engage with the uncle in any argument, let my sister respond to the uncle if necessary, take a video of what was happening and to wait for the police to arrive.

The 2 police officers spoke to both parties to understand the situation and after that, upon their advice, both parties decided not to pursue the matter further. The Police did not take any action against either party.

Not once did I attempt to run down the uncle with my car. He was standing by the driver’s side of the car the entire time making it impossible for him to have been in danger of being run over.”
