Imagine cruising down the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on a seemingly ordinary day when suddenly, a rock plummets from the sky, shattering your car’s windshield. This was the unnerving experience that befell a 51-year-old man on September 18, 2023, as he was driving his BMW vehicle towards Bukit Batok Ave 6.
An Unprecedented Encounter
The day was like any other for the man behind the wheel of his BMW. He was navigating the PIE when a rock, seemingly out of nowhere, crashed onto his windscreen with a force that broke the windscreen at the driver’s seat.
The scene was captured on the BMW’s dashcam and shared by the man’s daughter, Ms Lee.
The Mystery of the Falling Rock
As the video clip revealed, the incident took place at approximately 4:40 pm on a Monday as the driver was passing under a flyover. However, what remained unclear was the origin of the rock. It seemed to have dropped from the sky, leaving bystanders puzzled about how such an event could occur.
The impact of the rock hitting the windscreen was nothing short of catastrophic. The glass immediately shattered into countless fragments, scattering tiny shards all over front seats of the car.
The shattered glass shards were not limited to the front; they were also scattered throughout the passenger’s seats at the back.
A Fortunate Outcome
Despite the chaos that ensued, there was a silver lining to this harrowing incident. Miraculously, the driver emerged unscathed. His family, however, discovered fragments of glass in his hair and clothes.
Lee also added that the damages caused by the rock is suggested to be about $300 and they would be claiming from their insurance.
