Sian, I really cannot take it anymore. I don’t know if my boss is a Department Manager or a professional prata seller at Jalan Kayu, but the way he flip his instructions is really world-class talent. If flipping prata was an Olympic sport, this fellow would take Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
Every morning, I come in, he gives me “Direction A.” He say, “Oi, this project must focus on efficiency, cut the fluff, just give me the raw data.” Okay, steady. I spend the whole morning digging, OT through lunch, skip my kopi-C just to rush the report. By 4:00 PM, I present to him, you know what he say?
“Why so dry? Where is the ‘storytelling’? We need more visuals. Who told you to just give raw data? Use your brain leh.”
KNN. YOU told me to give raw data lah! But if I argue, he will look at me with that “I am the boss” face and say I misunderstood his “nuance.” Nuance my foot.
Then the best part is the double work. Monday he ask for Option X. Tuesday he say Option X is rubbish, do Option Y. Wednesday he comes back and ask, “Eh, actually I think Option X was better, can you revert?”
I’m not a magician leh, I’m an IT professional. My files don’t just “revert” by magic when you change your mind like weather. My weekend also burn because of his indecisiveness. While he is out at Sentosa or whatever, I am at home staring at my monitor, doing work that I already finished three days ago but had to delete because of his “vision.”
I really feel like quitting without a job. My mental health is damn rabak. Every time I see his name pop up on MS Teams, my heart rate jump to 120. I’m 33 this year, I thought by now I would have a stable career, but instead, I’m just a full-time “Prata Assistant” for a guy who doesn’t know what he wants.
Seriously, is the market very bad now? I feel like even if I go deliver food, at least the GPS won’t tell me to turn left then scold me for not turning right.
Anyone else’s boss also like this? Please tell me I’m not the only one suffering under a Prata King.
TL;DR: Boss flips instructions every hour, 100% double work, I’m losing my mind and want to jump ship even without a lifebuoy.
