It was the day I had been dreading for weeks. The day I would find out if I would still have a job. My boss had been hinting lately that he was running out of money to pay our salaries, and I was afraid I would be the one who got laid off.
I arrived at work that morning to find that everyone was gathered in the conference room. We all exchanged nervous glances as we waited for our boss to arrive. When he finally did, he had a grim look on his face. He sat down and announced that our salaries would not be paid this month.
The room fell silent as everyone tried to process the news. I was devastated. My family and I were already struggling to make ends meet, and now this. I couldn’t believe it.
My boss then proceeded to explain that he was planning to take a trip to Switzerland to propose to his long-time girlfriend. He said he had already paid for the tickets and was determined to go.
My first thought was, “What about us?!” I was furious. Here he was, planning a romantic getaway with his girlfriend, while leaving us unable to pay our bills.
I couldn’t believe it. I wanted to speak up, to tell him how unfair this was, but I was too scared. After all, he was still my boss. Instead, I just stood there in stunned silence.
The meeting ended shortly after, and I walked back to my desk feeling completely defeated. I was angry at my boss for being so selfish and putting his own needs ahead of ours.
I spent the rest of the day trying to figure out what I was going to do. I had no idea how I was going to make ends meet without my salary. It was a difficult and depressing thought.
A few days later, I heard that my boss had actually gone through with his plan and proposed to his girlfriend in Switzerland. I was furious. How could he do this to us? We were his employees, his responsibility, and he had chosen to abandon us.
I was so angry that I decided to take matters into my own hands. I call MOM, and they say need wait to investigate.
But while they investigating I no need eat ah?
So, the next time your boss says no money to pay salary, don’t just sit back and take it. Speak up and let your voice be heard. You never know what could happen.
