BOSS TELLS EMPLOYEES – “WE PAY YOU $3K/MONTH BUT YOU MUST BRING VALUE OF $6K/MONTH”

Is it normal for head of department to make this statement in front of all team members?

WDYT about the following statement?

“as employee, if you are paid 3000 SGD a month, you must bring value at least 6000 SGD a month to the company. Or else you are not worth to be employed here”

“If you all do these, our company will be more fruitful, and it will directly impact all of us in the long term through salary and bonus”

  1. A for intent, F for execution.
  2. Yeah sure, A for intent. Only if the intent was to overwork the employees to make the department output look good which in turns makes the HOD look good.
  3. I think it would depend heavily on the context the type of company, and the industry and sector.
I worked in a company where a briefing like this happened every single morning.
I had a friend who worked in bank sales. Not only did the exact scenario you described happened to my friend every single morning, each person had to explain, in front of the whole team, (1) why he/she could not meet the sales target of the recent period, (2) also what are the exact rectifying steps he/she will take to ensure that he/she will hit the sales target.
  4. It’s not wrong, but that definitely would leave a bad taste to your employee. It is basically just acce ntuate that you are just a disposable “asset” with price tag behind your back. Maybe not the best word to describe it, but it is somewhat “dehumanizing”.
  5. Numerically speaking sound, but please for the love of all that is holy, do NOT use that tone, unless you want to lose about half your team the next day
Dont make it sound like we are required to work with you, and that we are basically a liability if we dont earn anything more than what we are paid, thats not how real life works.
Company bosses recently loves to complain about the lack of loyalty from employees, nobody wanna stay long term. How about this, why dont you work with us and give us a reason to want to work with you without being downplayed.
