BOSSES WHO REJECT ANNUAL LEAVE, SHOULD STANDBY EMPLOYEES GOING AWOL

Hi l’d like to ask for some advice and what steps I can take. To add some context here, I work in a MNC and Im just a contract staff earning the bare minimum.

I was hired by a 3rd party recruitment agency and have been with the MNC for 8 months. My contract is for one year, Im entitled to 12 AL.

I planned a 1 week trip in the middle of April. I put in my one week (5AL) leave application just nice 1 month prior, as required, however my boss rejected it with no explanation.

I went to ask for the reason and my boss stated that the concern is due to my “poor rate of work completion.” In other words, he THINKS im unable to complete the tasks assigned to me if I were to go for a block leave of 1 week

Further context: My nature of work requires me to finish ‘cases’ every quarter, and the last 3 months, I was assigned 550+ cases. Its also important to note that I had gone for a reservist for 2 weeks within the last 3 months. which was highlighted to my boss well in advance, but yet I was still given over 550 cases. These 550 are due in the end of March, and naturally, I will struggle considering the time crunch and high numbers.

Next quarter, I am assigned 150 cases lol thats literally more than 3x decrease compared to previous round.

But my boss still has the audacity to reject my leave application on the basis of my poor work rate and he feels that granting my leave will cause me to not complete work which is due at the end of June

My questions are:

  1. is the rejection justified or even legal?
  2. cancelling the trip is not an option, should i bring this up to MOM?
  3. Any suggestions or advice on how I can fight for my leave (in corporate speak)
