My (28F) boyfriend (30m) can’t even handle a puppy, let alone a child
My boyfriend and I recently got a puppy, our first pet. This is something we both wanted since the start of our relationship. We never discussed what duties will fall with who, I guess I just assumed we would both be looking after him.
For the last few weeks I’ve gotten up between 4am and 6am to take pup out. I also do most of the potty breaks during the day.
Puppy had a bad night yesterday and I had to take him out five times. This morning I asked my boyfriend about the possibility of sharing morning duty. He straight up said no and walked away.
He’s happy to take him out to play, cuddle and post photo’s on social media. But all of the boring stuff like booking the vet, training, grooming, buying toys, early mornings, diet, etc. falls to me.
We’ve discussed children and both want them. But now I don’t know if I want children with him.
I understand that puppies and babies are different but this doesn’t bode well to me. I get there’s a lot of adjustment with getting a pet but it seems unfair that everything falls to me.
I’m not sure how to broach this topic with him or whether I should at all.
