It all started in 2016, when my daughter’s bra was cut up and left on our door step in the wee hours of the morning. We made a police report, only to be told disparaging remarks such as how it would be “difficult to catch the culprit” and it was a mere “act of mischief” etc. You get the gist.
Before I go on, I need to add that my wife has had her lingerie stolen throughout the years. However, due to the infrequency of the stolen items and lack of evidence, we did not report it to the police. This time, we figured, enough was enough.
We installed a CCTV, continued hanging lingerie out as bait and the week after, we caught a 60+ year old grandfather stealing my wife’s bra. He was successfully nabbed by my daughter who spotted him around our estate and called the police to come arrest him. However, he was let off by the police with ONLY a stern warning. We do not know if he has any connection to the cut-up bra. This was not revealed to us. However, he had admitted to stalking my wife home.
We STOPPED hanging our lingerie out to dry and thought our nightmare was over. Turns out, we could not be more wrong.
This year, my daughter has lost at least 5 pairs of shorts (or more even) all in a span of 3 months. She initially attributed the loss to misplacing them, but when her favourite pair of shorts disappeared from the rack outside, we knew something fishy was up again.
The CCTV footage showed a pervert loitering outside my house on 8 March, 6:03am. As you can see in the attached video, he first smelt my daughter’s shorts (0:38 in the video), checked for passerbys in the corridor, then took them away.

As a father and husband, I am getting increasingly worried for their safety. To all the young girls and women reading this, Singapore is no longer as safe as we think it is. Please be wary of your surroundings for there are many of such people out there.
