BRO & SIS-IN-LAW TRIES TO KICK PARENTS OUT OF FLAT AS DAD IS IN VEG STATE

A Faceook user recently voiced his displeasure on how his brother and sister in law are kicked their parents out of their house even though his father is in a vegetative state.

Here is the full story.

My brother & SIL are kicking my parents out of their 3Gen BTO flat.My parents are essential occupiers in a 3Gen flat with my bro, SIL and 2yo nephew. My dad is in an unresponsive vegetative state after 2 major strokes, and has been in that state for about 5 years. My mum has a helper whose primary job is to help take care of my dad (tube feeding, suctioning phlegm, change diapers, switch sides, wash & clean) as well as basic household chores like laundry, keeping the house clean etc.

My mum used to work (cos she needs to) but was affected by COVID and not working anymore. Also she has aged and had a couple of episodes of blacking out due to fatigue at work just this year. Anyway, her relationship with my SIL and bro has turned extremely sour and they have been bent on making living conditions difficult at home such as restricting them to only their bedroom, no access to kitchen to cook/eat, or do laundry.

My mum wants to move out, but can’t afford renting (especially because it’s not easy finding an affordable place without furniture that can accommodate my dad’s logistical needs). Would like to get subsidised housing from HDB but unable to do so cos she is an essential occupier in the current 3G flat. she can’t remove her own name and my bro/SIL refuse to remove her as they will then become ineligible for the flat and will lose the flat & $$ they have spent on renovating the house. But they don’t want to live tgt also, so my bro text my mum two weeks ago to instruct my mum to source for her own flat and move out by the end of the year.

HDB advised for all parties to go for family counselling but my bro/sil are refusing. My bro has been reminding my mum of the deadline to move out. Can he really do that? Cos HDB said he can’t as essential occupiers need to physically and continuously stay in the flat. But what can my mum do? I’m currently supporting my parents’ expenses fully, can’t afford rental too. I hope to apply for housing with my mum but as she’s an essential occupier already with my bro, i can’t do that either. Where can we seek help?
