I’m married to Allie. Allie is a free-spirited person, life-of-the-party type and she’s very social. This past weekend my parents had a family gathering, my brother Rob (M30) attended with his girlfriend Marie (Fmid20s), who we’ve heard about before but first time meeting.
Allie and I are close to my family but Rob isn’t close with any of us, he usually doesn’t attend family events, but he came along to this one. Rob later told us that he’d recently proposed to Marie and they were engaged, which was a bit of a surprise.
Marie didn’t talk much- she’d answer questions if anyone asked, Allie tried to get her to open up but she wouldn’t have any of it and pretty much stuck to Rob the whole time. She seemed kind of stuck up, the only time she talked without someone else prompting, she went on this spiel about her work and it felt like she was trying to show off.
When we were all leaving, Allie pulled Rob to one side and said she was concerned about Marie and he should rethink this engagement.
Rob asked why she was concerned, and Allie said that Marie seemed like a ‘pick-me-girl’ and arrogant, and he deserves better. He got pissed and went off at Allie, saying that it’s none of her business and she was acting like a bitch.
I overheard this and stepped in, saying that he’s going too far and we’re just trying to look out for him, which is more than he’s ever done for us. Rob just scoffed and they left.
Sometimes caring for your family is wasted when your family is blinded.
