In recent times, the beauty and hair salon industry in Singapore has been marred by controversies, with numerous establishments facing backlash for employing dubious practices.
Uncovering Deceptive Practices: The Latest Episode
In a video that surfaced on Facebook on the morning of August 24th, the spotlight once again fell on the questionable practices employed by a hair salon.
Unlike another incident that took place at a beauty salon in Ang Mo Kio which made false claims and used pressure tactics to sell treatments to customers, this incident involved haircuts.
The video captures a woman confronting the staff of the hair salon, accusing them of employing pressure sales tactics and overcharging customers.
The Allegations and Confrontation
The crux of the matter lies in the accusation made by the woman. She claimed that the hair salon staff coerced a little boy into paying S$12 for a haircut that was originally advertised at S$10.
The Singapore Incidents Facebook page shared the video along with the caption “Advertise S$10 but demand S$12 from a kid,” amplifying the accusation and raising eyebrows within the community.
The video depicts the woman standing outside the salon, visibly vexed, as she confronts the staff members of the salon.
Her frustration is evident as she points out the injustice of charging an extra S$2 from what she calls an “innocent kid.” The woman’s emotion-laden tirade showcases her disbelief at the audacity of tricking a child for a mere S$2.
A Tense Exchange
In an attempt to manage the situation, a female staff member intervenes and tries to downplay the matter, referring to it as “a small matter.”
However, the woman remains steadfast in her stance, unmoved by the staff’s attempts to diffuse the situation. She persists in her argument, demanding an explanation for the discrepancy between S$12 and S$10.
Unmasking the Deception
The underlying issue appears to revolve around the advertised price of a 10-minute quick cut, clearly displayed on a banner at the shopfront.
The woman’s assertion that the salon had misled customers by offering a S$10 haircut and then demanding S$12 during payment raises concerns about transparency and honesty in pricing.
