Singapore Civil Defence said that they were alerted at around 6.35 AM to a road traffic accident near the junction of Lok Yang Way and First Lok Yang Road. Upon SCDF’s arrival at the incident scene, a passenger bus was found overturned on its side. Another passenger bus had rammed into a fence by the roadside and a man was pinned in the driver’s seat.

Firefighters from Jurong Fire Station used hydraulic rescue equipment to free the man. The man was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

As there were multiple casualties involved in this accident, the first-arriving SCDF paramedic established a triaging system to prioritise the casualties according to the severity of their injuries. Casualties with severe injuries were treated and conveyed to the hospitals as priority. Additional ambulances and medical resources were also dispatched to support the ongoing operation.

A Mass Decontamination Vehicle (MDV) from SCDF’s Special Rescue Unit (SRU) was also activated to the incident. Responders from the SRU, comprising Full-time National Servicemen, configured their MDV into a casualty conveyance vehicle. The MDV subsequently conveyed 14 casualties to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.
