On Saturday 30 January 2021, a commuter was scolded by a bus driver in public regarding the way she wore her mask due to a religious face veil.
She was boarding a bus from Pasir Ris Drive 6 bringing along her 3 kids when the incident happened.
When she was boarding the bus, the female bus captain shouted at her saying that she cannot wear her niqab.
The woman then pulled up her niqab showing that she is indeed wearing a mask behind it. But, the bus captain retaliated shouting to her to wear it outside as no one can see it if she is wearing it underneath her niqab.
She told the media that this was the first time she was being told off like this since her first time moving to Singapore months ago.
After the incident, a representative from the public transport group called her to apologize.
