Car Destroyed After Crashing Into Six Cattle on China Highway, Owner May Be Held Liable

A driver in China’s Guangdong province escaped unharmed after his car slammed into a herd of cattle on a highway in the early hours of the morning, leaving all six animals dead and his vehicle severely wrecked.

Police said the livestock owner could be held responsible for negligence, as allowing cattle to roam near highways is prohibited under local regulations.

The incident remains under investigation.

Driver Collides With Herd on Rainy Highway

The crash took place at around 3am on July 30 in Jiangcheng District, Yangjiang, along a highway connecting Hailing Island to downtown Yangjiang near National Highway G234.

According to local traffic police, the driver encountered a herd of cattle on the road during heavy rain. Poor visibility and wet road conditions made it difficult to react in time, resulting in a high-impact collision.

The white sedan suffered catastrophic damage after ploughing into the animals.

Car Left Mangled, Six Cattle Killed

Images and dashcam footage from the scene showed the vehicle’s front end almost completely destroyed.

The bonnet was crumpled and twisted, while the bumper and headlights were ripped apart. Internal engine components were exposed, airbags had deployed, and one of the cows was seen lying on top of the wrecked car following the impact.

Witnesses said five cattle died instantly, while a sixth animal, which survived the initial collision with serious injuries, later died at around 10am the same day.

Despite the violent crash, the driver escaped without any injuries.

Driver Says He Could Not Avoid the Animals

The driver told local media that visibility was extremely poor because of the rain and that his vehicle’s headlights appeared dim.

He said the cattle suddenly appeared in front of him, leaving almost no time to brake or steer away.

Another vehicle was travelling alongside his car at the time, preventing him from swerving into the adjacent lane to avoid the herd.

Police Locate Cattle Owner

Following investigations, officers from the Yangjiang Public Security Bureau’s Traffic Police Detachment tracked down the owner of the cattle.

Authorities said livestock owners are legally required to keep their animals under control, and allowing cattle to graze on or near highways is prohibited because it poses a serious danger to motorists.

Police have contacted the owner to discuss compensation and liability arising from the collision.

The case is still under investigation, with authorities expected to determine the final responsibility for the accident.
