NO PLANS TO CALL FOR IMMEDIATE GENERAL ELECTIONS DESPITE VACANT SEATS IN PARLIAMENT

0

Singapore’s political landscape experienced a notable shift on Jul. 17, with there being four vacant seats in the Parliament. Despite this unprecedented situation, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has confirmed that there are no plans for an immediate general election to be called.

Resignations of Tan Chuan-Jin and Cheng Li Hui

The day of Jul. 17 marked the resignations of two prominent Members of Parliament (MPs) affiliated with the People’s Action Party (PAP).

The two MPs in question were Tan Chuan-Jin, who also held the position of Parliament Speaker, and Cheng Li Hui, who were revealed to have been engaged in an inappropriate relationship.

Tan Chuan-Jin served as a member of the Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency (GRC), while Cheng Li Hui represented the Tampines GRC.

Their resignations came after Prime Minister Lee disclosed an “inappropriate relationship” between the two MPs, which persisted even after they were advised to discontinue it, with Tan also being involved in a hot mic incident where he was caught muttering the phrase “f-ing populist” after WP MP Jamus Lim’s speech.

No Immediate General Election

Despite the significant departures of Tan Chuan-Jin and Cheng Li Hui from their parliamentary roles, Prime Minister Lee firmly stated that he would not call for an immediate general election.

He highlighted that the next election is scheduled for 2025, and the present government’s term is only at its midpoint, with the recent opening of the Parliament.

PM Lee assured the public that the government has a comprehensive agenda for the current term, and they will focus on fulfilling their commitments to the nation.

Regarding the GRCs (Group Representation Constituencies) with missing members, he emphasized that the other members of the respective GRCs would step up to ensure effective representation and care for the constituents.

Four Vacant Seats: A Closer Look

The departure of Tan Chuan-Jin and Cheng Li Hui created vacancies in their respective GRCs, which will be temporarily covered by Minister of Culture, Community, and Youth, Edwin Tong and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Masagos Zulkifli.

Tharman Shanmugaratnam, a former Cabinet member, resigned from his position as Senior Minister and relinquished his membership in the PAP to run for the Singaporean Presidency, leaving his seat in Jurong GRC vacant, making it three vacant seats.

The fourth vacant seat was vacated by Workers’ Party member, Raeesah Khan, elected in the 2020 general election who stepped down in Nov. 2021 from her party and Parliament roles after a lengthy scandal where she was caught lying in Parliament.

No by-election took place in Sengkang, and her Compassvale ward was divided among other Sengkang MPs who took over and covered her duties.

Additionally, West Coast GRC is operating without its full complement of MPs as Transport Minister S Iswaran was asked to take a leave of absence by PM Lee after being arrested by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) and released on bail, with ongoing assistance in investigations.

As a result, the other MPs from West Coast GRC will be covering Iswaran’s duties during his leave of absence, although whether he returns to parliament will depend on the investigations.

51 Y.O WOMAN MADE 2.7K FALSE EMERGENCY CALLS BECAUSE SHE WAS “LONELY” & WANTS ATTENTION

0

Loneliness can be a powerful emotion, driving people to seek connection and attention in unusual ways. In Matsudo, Japan, a woman named Hiroko Hatagami, 51, found herself trapped in the clutches of loneliness. She allegedly resorted to making 2,761 false emergency calls over a period of about two years and nine months, seeking someone to listen to her and alleviate her solitude, according to The Mainichi.

Call and call and call

On July 13, the Chiba Police’s Matsudo Higashi Police Station arrested Hiroko Hatagami for supposedly obstructing the operations of the local fire department.

It was reported that she made emergency calls from her home and the surrounding neighborhood, feigning various ailments to seek attention.

These fabricated complaints included claims of severe stomachaches, medication overdoses, and excruciating leg pain.

Hiroko Hatagami’s calls numbered approximately three a day, adding up to an astounding total of 2,761 false emergency calls made over the course of nearly three years.

Her persistent behavior continued even after repeated warnings from both the fire department and the police station. On June 20, the fire department finally filed a police report, leading to her eventual arrest.

A Cry for Help Disguised in Loneliness

The motive behind Hatagami’s actions was both tragic and ironic. She lived alone and admitted that her actions were driven by an overwhelming sense of loneliness.

The false emergency calls became her way of seeking human connection and attention, even if it was under false pretenses.

Hiroko Hatagami’s case sheds light on a larger issue: the loneliness epidemic. In today’s fast-paced and digitally connected world, feelings of isolation and loneliness are becoming increasingly common.

Many people, especially those living alone, struggle to find meaningful connections and resort to desperate measures to ease their pain.

While Hatagami’s actions were driven by loneliness, they had significant consequences for emergency services. Dispatching ambulances and emergency responders to false calls not only wasted precious resources but also put lives at risk by potentially delaying responses to genuine emergencies.

MOTORCYCLIST KILLED AFTER CRASHING INTO LORRY & DRAGGED ACROSS ROAD @ BEDOK

0

On Sunday (16 July), a tragic incident occurred along Bedok North Road, resulting in the death of a 38-year-old motorcyclist. The unfortunate accident involved a collision with a lorry, causing severe injuries that proved fatal for the motorcyclist, according to Shin Min Daily News.

At approximately 3 pm on 16th July, the motorcyclist was riding along Bedok North Road towards Tampines Avenue 10 when the collision with the lorry took place.

The impact of the accident was so severe that the motorcyclist was thrown from his bike onto the road. Tragically, the lorry continued moving, running over the motorcyclist and dragging him for several meters before coming to a stop.

Paramedics were immediately dispatched to the scene upon receiving a call for help. However, despite their best efforts, they pronounced the motorcyclist dead on-site.

The accident caused a commotion, with onlookers gathering around the scene, while police cars and ambulances arrived promptly to provide assistance.

The location of the accident was near Bedok North MRT station, and the pictures taken by witnesses the deceased motorcyclist’s bike was found lying in the center lane, with signs of blood underneath it.

According to the reports, the lorry involved in the accident was in the rightmost lane and a blue tent was noticed next to the lorry, covering the body of the unfortunate motorcyclist. The presence of what appears to be a pool of blood beneath the lorry added to the grim scene.

The distance between the lorry and the motorcycle was estimated to be approximately 30 meters, indicating the severity of the collision. Tire tracks visible on the road led investigators to believe that the motorcyclist had been dragged along the gravel after the initial impact.

A resident living in the vicinity spoke to Shin Min Daily News, describing the harrowing event. The witness reported hearing a loud noise and immediately rushed to the street to investigate. The sight that greeted them was one of devastation, with police cars, ambulances, and a crowd of onlookers gathered around the scene.

Police investigations into the accident are currently underway.

BF TRIES TO SCAM GF BUT GF SCAMS HIM BACK

0

Two years ago me and my ex moved in together and bought all the furniture together. We broke up six months ago and instead of splitting everything I told him I’d pay his half of what he paid and stay in the apartment (we were renting and he didn’t care who stayed or moved out). He completely agreed to this.

This is where the drama starts. He told his mum and dad the situation and for some reason they thought that it’s completely unfair I get everything and only pay him half and I should pay the ENTIRE value of the stuff to him (around $5000). His parents had him convinced this was the right way to do things. In all fairness I was feeling bitter towards him and his parents so I turned around and told him “how about you take the apartment and all the belongings and you pay me the $5000”. He’s not the smartest guy and literally relies on everything his parents say so he thought that it’s a fair trade and agreed. I’m pretty sure I heard him on the phone to his parents telling them the new plan and I know they didn’t sound happy but he didn’t say anything so we kept to it.

It’s now three months later and he messaged me saying he realised that he really should’ve only paid $2500 because I only paid half of the stuff. I know he’s right but his family tried to one up me so I one upped them. So I said no this is what was agreed to.

EDIT: because all the furniture was an entire set it was all or nothing and he was adamant on keeping everything together. So it was either him or me being scammed out.

If he messaged me apologising for using his family (I should’ve added they were yelling at me on the phone to the point I was crying and ready to leave with nothing) I would’ve sent his half back. But like someone of you wonderful people have said “play stupid games, win stupid prizes” he didn’t apologise, he only said he wanted his half back. I get i scammed him but I did what I needed to afford a new place

Since his family played dirty and I wrong to give him back what he tried to do on me?

GIRL LIKES GUY BUT NOT SURE IF HE IS PRETENDING THAT HE DOESN’T KNOW

0

A girl shared how she likes a guy that she has confessed to before but isn’t sure if he is pretending that he doesn’t know she likes him.

Here is the story:

“Not sure how u guys are going to view this but writing this just to see other possibilities that I didn’t think of.

I have been interested in the same guy for around six years. During the early years, i confessed and got rejected but i didnt ask why that time. After that i distanced myself from him although we are part of the same group or clique. After a few months or a year, we got closer again. Although i tried moving on after the rejection, when we got closer it was hard to control my feelings which resurfaced again.

We have been going out together for meals or movies and at times he pulls me closer when we are crossing the road or walking on the pavement. He remembers my preferences for my drinks and walks me back sometimes although he lives in the opposite direction. He is quite introverted and private but recently he has been more open about his personal feelings and sensitive side too.  He has been over to my house to watch movies together and i am quite obvious about my feelings. He definitely knows about how i feel towards him as i have shown clear signs.

I am not sure if he is pretending that he is unaware although he always goes along with everything or if he just sees me as a friend although he knows i am interested in him. He can be confusing sometimes and i was thinking if i should confess again or should i not confess and just move on??”

Editor’s note: Just tell him how you feel.

MAN TAKES LOAN FROM GF TO BUY PS5, SO HE WON’T DRINK WITH HOSTESSES

This article is about a man who is trying to get his girlfriend to lend him money to buy the new Sony PlayStation 5. The article is very funny, although the girlfriend doesn’t seem to see the funny side of it.

Here is the story:

My boyfriend is 29 years old and he is still doing odd jobs to survive. He recently told me to give him $1,000 so he can afford to buy the PlayStation 5.

Sometimes he does food deliveries but most of the time he slacks at home as long he has enough to cover his monthly bills.

He has no insurance and all he does is lay around and play his mobile games all day.

I then asked him, how would he even play the PlayStation if he does not have a TV, he then told me that he will lend from his other friends to buy a cheap TV to play.

I went to check the price of the PlayStation 5 and it is not even $1,000. He then said that it is out of stock and he have to go through Carousell to get the device.

Then I asked him why does he need the PlayStation and he told me that it is better for him to stay at home and play games rather than go out for a drink with friends.

He knows that I don’t like him to drink as he always goes to those places with hostesses, but he claim his friends wants to go cause their single and lonely.

I am really thinking if I should give him the $1000 or should I just break up with him.

What do you guys think?

Till today I’m questioning myself why I’m with such a guy.

GIRL KEEPS TALKING ABOUT EX-BF TO CURRENT BF, EXPECTS HIM TO SMILE

0

I decided to end my relationship with my 2 year bf. We had a healthy relationship. But I felt rly tired cus from the start, I’ve been guiding him on how to be a bf. And he always told me he doesn’t know how to be a bf (I’m his second gf) too.

So I guided, always initiated the talk when we had disagreements. At the end of that 2 years, I felt like I’ve changed him too much.

Whatever he is, was because I’ve taught him A B C on how to be a bf. He’s always the calm one, whereas I’m the one who was more vocal. He always tried to be better, and was there when I was at my lowest, but along the way I felt so tired of guiding that I felt I needed space to grow on my own. He initiated for a break instead but I was very sure I wanted out. So we ended on good terms and mentioned that we will get back when we’re both better.

Then A came into my life, I told him I wasn’t ready for a relationship but he asked me 4x to be his gf so I agreed out of pressure. Throughout, I kept thinking about my ex. It’s fked up but I would text my ex and tell him I still think of him and nothing feels the same. I even told A I don’t feel that same love I felt when I was with my ex, felt as if I couldnt love someone anymore. Then A wld always question me about why I’d always bring him up, but it’s precisely because I’m not ready. A said he was ok with me moving on, but apparently he wasn’t because he got angry multiple times (and became verbally abusive, and sexually harassed me because ‘silent meant consent) when I shared with him about my struggles on moving on. I broke it off with A and A threatened suicide etc. I just left.

Then, I felt free because I had the space to really move on from my ex. It’s now been 8 months since we’ve broken up. All along after the breakup, I would text him telling him about how much I missed him. I waited under his block so that I could speak to him once more, because I still wanted a platform to speak. But he didn’t want me anymore. He told me to move on, and he has already moved on. He said has no more feelings for me anymore.

And he hope I can find someone better. He said that he wants to focus on studying now (in culinary) at CIA to pursue his passion. Which I respected, and I’m even more thankful he came down for a talk (though forced to come down by his dad and sister) with me for a closure. His friend mentioned that he has an fwb now and doesn’t want a relationship. Also mentioned that he’s more disappointed than angry at me.

When my ex used to reply me, he told me that at the start maybe there was a chance to rekindle things but now that 8 months have passed, his thoughts and feelings will stand firm. And he wished me the best.

My plans now: Continue to gym, work on myself, be a better person (what I’ve been doing since breaking up with him since my intention was that I wanted space to grow) while still silently hoping for a chance with him again in time to come. I’m really sure of him. Albeit only 2 years, I’ve grown in honesty and communication with him. Do you guys still think that in time to come, there will be a chance with him again?

I know I screwed up, and I know I’ll get screwed for typing this. I’m ready, but really, is this possible? Thank you.
