MASS STABBING AT CHINA KINDERGARTEN, 6 PEOPLE INCLUDING CHILDREN KILLED, 25 Y.O ARRESTED

0

Tragedy struck the city of Lianjiang, Guangdong province, when a stabbing incident unfolded at a local kindergarten. The devastating attack resulted in the loss of six lives, including a teacher, two parents, and three students, according to a report by Al Jazeera.

On Monday morning, at approximately 7:40 am local time (23:40 GMT on Sunday), a 25-year-old man named Wu launched a vicious attack at the Lianjiang kindergarten.

Armed with a weapon, he targeted innocent individuals within the premises, leaving behind a trail of tragedy. He was ultimately arrested 20 minutes after the attack took place.

The local police, upon arriving at the scene, classified the case as an “intentional assault.” They immediately initiated an investigation to uncover the motives behind the attacker’s actions and gather evidence related to the incident.

News of the stabbing incident spread rapidly on social media platforms, with the discussion quickly becoming the top-trending topic on Weibo.

Millions of users expressed their shock, sadness, and condolences for the victims and their families. However, videos capturing the crime scene were swiftly removed from Weibo and Douyin, a video-sharing platform.

Not the first

Tragically, incidents of school-related violence have occurred in China in recent years, raising concerns about the safety and security of educational institutions.

In August last year, another attack took place at a nursery school in Jiangxi that resulted in 3 deaths, and in April 2021, another knife-wielding man entered a kindergarten in southern China and killed 2 children, injuring 16 others.

Despite government efforts to enhance security measures, such incidents continue to pose a significant challenge. The Lianjiang kindergarten attack serves as a somber reminder of the need for comprehensive solutions to address this pressing issue.

Recognizing the importance of safeguarding students and teachers, the Chinese government has implemented various initiatives to improve school security.

These measures include enhanced security protocols, stricter access control, and increased personnel training. While progress has been made, tragic incidents like the one in Lianjiang highlight the ongoing need for further measures and interventions.

FANS AT A-MEI’S S’PORE CONCERT ALLEGEDLY TOLD NOT TO WAVE PRIDE FLAG DURING HER SONG

Music concerts are meant to be spaces of celebration and inclusivity, where fans can come together to enjoy their favorite artists’ performances.

However, a recent incident during A-Mei’s ‘ASMeiR 2023 World Tour’ stop in Singapore has sparked discussions about LGBTQ+ acceptance in the country.

Concertgoers were reportedly asked not to wave rainbow flags during a performance of A-Mei’s hit song ‘Rainbow,’ raising concerns about the visibility and support for the LGBTQ+ community.

A-Mei’s ‘ASMeiR 2023 World Tour’ Stop in Singapore

A-Mei, a popular Taiwanese singer, held her ‘ASMeiR 2023 World Tour’ concert in Singapore, attracting a large number of fans eager to witness her performance. The concert was anticipated to be a memorable night filled with music and excitement.

During the concert, an incident occurred involving a security guard and a concertgoer waving a rainbow flag attached to a light stick.

The security guard approached the fan and gestured towards the flag, crossing their hands to indicate that waving the rainbow flag was not allowed.

The concertgoer seemed confused and attempted to communicate by pointing to the flag, but the security guard reiterated their request and walked away.

Video of the Incident Goes Viral

A video capturing the incident was shared on Instagram and TikTok by content creator Andee Chua, quickly gaining attention and sparking conversations about LGBTQ+ acceptance. The video allowed the incident to reach a wider audience, leading to discussions and debates about the rights and visibility of the LGBTQ+ community in Singapore.

Andee’s post

So this had to happen at @amit_feat_amei Singapore concert last night when she finally got to sing “彩虹Rainbow” after it was banned in Singapore in 2014.

We were told to put away our Rainbow flags as though they were magic wands and everyone will turn gay if we wave it. Even after the repeal of Section 377A in Singapore, we are still treated as second class citizens. Come on, relax, it is just a rainbow flag.

But well, you can make us put away those flags, but you can’t stop the PRIDE in us! We exist, and we are here to stay, and SLAY!

STARBUCKS STAFF BRAGS ABOUT MAKING “STUPID” CUSTOMERS SPEND MORE, FIRED

0

A Twitter user who identified as a barista faced backlash after boasting about their ability to upsell drink add-ons to what they referred to as “stupid” customers. The tweet sparked a heated discussion about upselling tactics, customer service, and appropriate behavior in the service industry.

The controversy began when a Malaysian Twitter user shared their experience with an international coffeehouse chain’s upselling technique.

Instead of asking if they wanted additional cheese for their order, the cashier asked how many slices of cheese they preferred, subtly nudging them towards paying for an add-on.

Many users resonated with the tweet, acknowledging similar encounters and offering advice to be more attentive when placing orders to avoid unnecessary upsells.

“Stupid customers”

Amidst the responses, a barista on Twitter responded unsympathetically, admitting their ability to identify “stupid” customers and successfully push add-ons.

This tweet received significant criticism, as users found the barista’s attitude disrespectful and unprofessional.

Twitterverse Reacts with Criticism

The barista’s tweet faced a wave of backlash from hundreds of Twitter users, expressing their disapproval of the barista’s attitude. Many highlighted the importance of providing considerate customer service rather than exploiting customers.

Some users advised the barista to delete the tweet, emphasizing the potential negative consequences it could have on their personal and professional reputation.

In the midst of the controversy, Twitter users offered advice and suggestions to the barista. Some advised them to reflect on their behavior and refrain from insulting customers.

They emphasized the long-term benefits of being considerate and respectful to retain a loyal customer base.

Claims he was fired

Following his Tweet going viral, the barista posted an update saying that he was fired “immediately”, as he posted a selfie of himself donning the Starbucks uniform.

Company Response and Clarification

Starbucks clarified that the barista had been employed by them for only four days in 2021 and had left voluntarily.

The tweet did not align with the company’s values and practices, and the barista has not been associated with the chain since then.

CYCLIST KNOCKED DOWN BY VAN @ HOUGANG ZEBRA CROSSING – WHO IS THE ONE AT FAULT HERE

On 26th June at around 5.17 pm, an unfortunate collision took place at the zebra crossing located along the junction of Lor Ah Soo and Hougang Avenue 3.

The incident was captured on a car surveillance camera, and the footage was shared on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page on 10th July.

According to the video, the cyclist collided with the van while riding straight across the zebra crossing. As a result of the collision, the cyclist fell over while the van came to an abrupt stop.

Upon witnessing the accident, passers-by near the scene quickly responded and rushed to the cyclist’s aid. The van driver promptly emerged from the vehicle and approached the fallen cyclist to ensure she was not seriously injured.

In a display of community spirit, both the driver of the van and the passenger of a nearby camcar offered their assistance.

They helped the cyclist to her feet and supported her as she walked to the kerb. Other concerned individuals in the vicinity also approached to offer their help and check on her well-being.

The van driver, who reportedly failed to notice the cyclist approaching, seemed to be focused on the left side of his vehicle while approaching the zebra crossing.

However, some netizens have weighed in and said that the van was already on the move when the cyclist decided to abruptly cycle on without stopping.

So, who is the one at fault here?

Netizens’ comments

  1. Cyclist should come to a stop instead of dashing through.
  2. I been saying for long time already, check for traffic and make sure drivers can see you before you proceed.
And then there are this type of cyclists who just go at normal speed thinking drivers can see them easily.
Last time the law needed cyclists to dismount and push, now no need. But must cycle at “walking speed”, what’s the rationale? So that drivers have enough time to spot you.
You want zoom past like this then good luck.
    Lucky to be just injured.
  3. Cyclists like this one r asking for trouble. Should make sure the vehicles have stopped b4 crossing. Van driver was looking infront n cannot react so quickly if the cyclist suddenly rides across from his side. Easy for camcar driver to say he saw n blame the van driver for not spotting the cyclist till too late… of course the camcar driver could see better becos his vehicle was further back!
  4. If only both practice common basic rules.
-drivers should always slow down at zebra crossing., stop if there are pedestrians.
-pedestrians should always slow down and look before putting their foot onto the crossing.
If those were practice instead of assuming or think you have the right of way no matter what, there shouldn’t be a problem.

65 Y.O MAN FORCED 11 Y.O GRANDDAUGHTER TO PERFORM ORAL ON HIM, JAILED 12 YEARS

0

After a family dinner celebrating his wife’s birthday, a 65-year-old man took advantage of his position of authority and forced his 11-year-old granddaughter to perform oral intercourse with him at a staircase landing.

This disturbing act was not an isolated event, as the man had been assaulting the girl since she was 10 years old.

The man, who is now 68 years old, was sentenced on Monday to 12 years imprisonment after pleading guilty to one count of rape for the staircase landing incident, which took place back in 10 July 2020.

Family Dynamics and Regular Visits

The victim’s visits to her grandfather and step-grandmother’s flat were regular occurrences, taking place every Sunday. These visits involved the girl’s mother, stepfather, and step-siblings, reflecting a close-knit family structure.

On July 10, 2020, the family gathered to celebrate the birthday of the girl’s step-grandmother. After dinner, the victim’s step-grandmother asked the girl to accompany her grandfather to buy durians at a nearby stall. On their way back to the flat, the man took advantage of the staircase landing, one flight of stairs up from the ground floor, to carry out his disturbing actions.

The Victim’s Traumatic Experience

The victim’s horror and disgust were palpable as she turned away when the man attempted to kiss her. However, he proceeded to pull down her jeans and molest her. The girl, wanting to escape the situation, tried to walk away, but the man forcibly grabbed her wrist, pulling her back. He then coerced her into performing oral on him, compounding the physical and emotional trauma she experienced. The girl was also too young at the time to understand the gravity of the depravity that she was being subjected to by her grandfather.

The victim’s inability to confide in a trusted adult further highlights the complexity of the situation. Despite feeling anger towards her grandfather, the girl found it challenging to disclose the offenses committed against her.

The turning point came when the girl, in the wake of a disagreement with her mother, confided in her form teacher. Recognizing the severity of the situation, the teacher referred the girl to a school counselor, who then contacted the Ministry of Social and Family Development.

Child protection officers swiftly took action, facilitating the girl’s police report and subsequent arrest of the perpetrator.

The Devastating Impact on the Victim

The victim’s emotional and psychological well-being suffered immensely due to the man’s acts. In her victim impact statement, she revealed the nightmares she endured, reliving the trauma inflicted upon her by her grandfather.

The distress caused by the abuse led her to contemplate self-harm, necessitating counseling to address thoughts of self harm.

While she has made progress in her recovery, she continues to experience flashbacks and fear older men. Anxiety and physical symptoms, such as sweaty palms, surface whenever an older man sits beside her on the bus.

Dark history

The man’s abhorrent behavior didn’t start with the incident at the staircase landing. He began molesting his granddaughter when she was just 10 years old.

Over a span of more than 1½ years, he subjected her to various offenses, inflicting immense emotional and psychological harm on the young girl.

The legal ramifications of the man’s actions are significant. In 2020, the definition of rape in the Penal Code was expanded to include oral penetration without consent. This legal amendment ensures that all forms of non-consensual acts are treated with the severity they deserve.

In this case, the man’s conviction for rape reflects the gravity of his actions and the impact they had on the victim.

Sentencing and Caning Considerations

The man’s sentence of 12 years’ imprisonment includes a six-month term in lieu of caning. Traditionally, the crime of rape carries a minimum punishment of 12 strokes of the cane. However, the man, being over 50 years old, is exempted from caning. This exemption is due to the physical limitations that come with age.

Additional Charges Taken Into Consideration

The severity of the man’s actions is underscored by the fact that eight other charges were taken into consideration during sentencing. These charges include a second rape charge, as well as charges for molesting the girl, showing her an obscene image on his mobile phone, and exposing himself to her.

CAR CRASHED INTO BUKIT TIMAH CANAL, MIGRANT WORKER JUMPS IN TO RESCUE VICTIMS

0

On Sunday, July 9th, at approximately 12:20 pm, a collision took place at the junction of Queen’s Road and Lutheran Road in the Bukit Timah area.

According to reports from Shin Min Daily News, a blue sport-utility vehicle (SUV) was traveling along Queen’s Road when it collided with a black sedan traveling on Lutheran Road. This collision had far-reaching consequences, leading to the SUV’s subsequent plunge into a nearby canal.

SUV was spinning before it fell into the canal

Eyewitness accounts shed light on the intensity of the accident. Mr. Zhuang, a family member of the SUV driver who was present at the scene, revealed that the vehicle spun around several times after the collision before ultimately crashing through the railing and plummeting into the canal.

Onlookers and reporters were quick to observe the aftermath, noticing the extensive damage caused by the SUV’s impact on the railing, which created a significant gap.

To ensure the safety of everyone involved, the police promptly cordoned off the area.

The submerged SUV suffered severe damage to its left side, as the force of the impact caused it to submerge in the canal. The rear wheels came to rest on a portion of the broken railing, while the front bumper was nearly detached.

The license plate had dislodged, and the front seat airbags had deployed, bearing witness to the intensity of the collision. The arduous task of removing the SUV from the canal took over an hour, with the operation finally concluding later in the afternoon.

Migrant worker to the rescue

Amidst the chaos and panic that ensued, an unexpected hero emerged. Kudia, a 35-year-old migrant worker, happened to be nearby, working on the renovation of a nearby house.

Alongside his colleagues, Kudia was on a lunch break when they heard a series of loud bangs. Driven by curiosity, they rushed outside to investigate and were confronted by the sight of the SUV submerged in the canal, with a woman and her son trapped inside.

The woman, undoubtedly in a state of shock, reached out to her son, desperately asking if he was hurt. However, the young boy stood there, seemingly dazed and unable to respond.

Without hesitation, Kudia leaped into action. Braving the treacherous waters, he swiftly carried the boy to safety, passing him to the other workers waiting outside.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Kudia and his colleagues immediately devised a plan to rescue the woman. They lowered a sturdy ladder into the canal, offering her a lifeline.

Grateful and overwhelmed, the woman climbed up the ladder, expressing her heartfelt appreciation for the swift and selfless actions of these courageous individuals.

As the incident gained attention, concerned individuals sought updates on the well-being of the car’s occupants. The police confirmed that the accident involved two vehicles, and both the female driver, aged 42, and her 12-year-old son were conscious when they were transported to the hospital.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) swiftly responded to the scene and conveyed them to the National University Hospital (NUH) for further medical evaluation and treatment.

Relief washed over the victims’ family as they learned that the SUV had not overturned, and both the mother and son had not sustained any evident trauma.

The driver of the black sedan, a 60-year-old woman, is currently cooperating with the ongoing police investigations.

GETGO DRIVER WHO CRASHED INTO BUS IN HORRIFIC FATAL YISHUN ACCIDENT, TOOK DRUGS

In January, a tragic incident occurred in Yishun when a 31-year-old man driving a GetGo car crashed into a bus at a road junction. The unfortunate outcome resulted in the man’s death and injuries suffered by seven bus passengers. Investigation revealed that the man had consumed drugs prior to the accident, shedding light on his reckless behavior.

The driver, identified as Mr. Alvin Wong Mun Loong, was revealed through a Coroner’s Inquiry. The 31-year-old man had a history of drug addiction and had faced previous charges related to drug offenses.

Mr. Wong had been charged with drug offenses in the past, leading to a 12-month sentence of drug rehabilitation. He was released in March 2022, and at the time of the accident, he was supposed to be under drug supervision for 16 months. Unfortunately, he had ceased attending urine tests, disregarding his obligations.

In an attempt to rent a vehicle from GetGo, Mr. Wong misused the identity of a stranger since he did not possess a valid driver’s license. The exact method by which he obtained the stranger’s identity remains undisclosed.

Night of the crash

On the night of January 13, Mr. Wong was driving the GetGo car along Yishun Central towards Yishun Avenue 3. As captured by dashcam footage shared on social media, the car collided head-on with an SBS Transit double-decker bus at the junction with Yishun Central. The impact caused both vehicles to recoil, bringing the bus to a halt next to the traffic light.

Investigation findings indicated that Mr. Wong had run a red light, as the traffic light along Yishun Avenue 2 was green for the bus. The absence of tire brake marks at the scene suggested that he had not intended to slow down at the junction. However, the police could not ascertain whether he was speeding, and no foul play was suspected.

The collision resulted in severe damage to the GetGo car, leaving Mr. Wong trapped in the driver’s seat. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) employed hydraulic rescue equipment to extricate him from the wreckage. He was then rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries and died.

In addition to Mr. Wong, seven bus passengers were injured in the accident. Paramedics transported six of them, aged between 22 and 40, to the hospital, while the seventh passenger sustained minor injuries. The bus driver reported that some passengers had fallen from their seats, resulting in bruises on their limbs.

Drugs Found in the Driver’s Body

During the autopsy conducted on Mr. Wong’s body, traces of three different drugs—Ecstasy, methamphetamine, and amphetamine—were detected. The presence of painkillers and sedatives was also noted. The combination of drugs found in his system could have impaired his cognitive abilities, compromising his capacity to drive safely.

According to Mr. Wong’s wife, who was informed of his passing, he had been evading the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) prior to the accident. The last contact she had with him was four days before the incident, when he sent her an apology message on Instagram. The couple had been living separately since December 2022, and although he was learning to drive, he did not possess a driver’s license.

Videos and images circulated widely, capturing the attention of netizens who were shocked by the extent of the damage caused by the collision. Debris from the accident littered the ground of the highway, adding to the chaotic scene.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) promptly responded to the incident. They said that they had received reports of the accident at around 9:40 PM on July 9.

Upon their arrival, they conveyed one injured individual to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. The current condition of the person is unknown, and it remains unclear whether there were any other casualties or injuries resulting from the crash.

A netizen commented that the victim had purportedly succumbed to his serious chest injuries and died at the hospital although at the time of writing, it is unconfirmed.

While initial reports suggested that the accident occurred along the Tampines Expressway (TPE) towards SLE near Seletar, the SCDF clarified that it took place on the SLE towards BKE before the Lentor Avenue exit.

The aftermath of the accident left its mark on the highway. Passers-by gathered at a safe distance, observing the toppled car and the ensuing chaos.

The hedges lining the road shoulder were in disarray, indicating that the vehicle may have collided with them during the crash.

Accidents on the road are unfortunate incidents that can lead to severe consequences. The accident on the SLE towards BKE serves as a reminder of the risks involved in daily commutes. It is crucial for drivers to prioritize safety, adhere to traffic rules, and remain alert to avoid such incidents.

MAN WHO PUNCHED & KICKED POLICEMAN IN RAID WHERE HIS ACCOMPLICE WAS SHOT, JAILED

0

25-year-old Nikhil Durgude pleaded guilty on 1 June to multiple charges, including one count of intentionally causing harm to obstruct a public servant from performing their duties. His additional charges included the possession of cannabis and the consumption of methamphetamine.

He was sentenced on 10 July to 9 years and 18 months imprisonment and fined $4,000.

He had assaulted a police officer and left his face bloodied during an incident at a condominium unit where another police officer drew his gun.

What happened

According to court documents, on November 5, 2020, three officers, including Senior Staff Sergeant (SSS) Chua Ming Cheng and Inspector Zheng Yiyang, visited a unit at City Suites in Balestier as part of a police operation.

They identified themselves as police officers to Nikhil and two other individuals, Prakash Mathivanan and Malani Naidu Prabhakar Naid, who were present in the living room.

While complying with the officers’ instructions to squat and place their hands on their heads, the trio engaged in conversation. When SSS Chua instructed them to stop talking, Prakash stood up and attacked the officer, causing him to fall. Prakash also struck SSS Chua in the face and upper body.

Inspector Zheng responded by drawing his service revolver and aiming it at the sofa, which was in the general direction of Prakash and Nikhil. After commanding Prakash to cease his attack on SSS Chua, Prakash turned towards Inspector Zheng and forcefully grabbed the officer’s hands, which were holding the revolver.

Before SSS Chua could rise and assist Inspector Zheng, Nikhil assaulted him by repeatedly punching and kicking him. SSS Chua fell once again, and Nikhil continued to attack him while he lay on the floor.

The prosecution stated, “The accused engaged in this assault to prevent SSS Chua from assisting Inspector Zheng and, thereby, aimed to hinder SSS Chua from fulfilling his duty as a public servant.”

Some time later, two additional officers entered the unit, leading to Nikhil ceasing his assault on SSS Chua.

Tested positive for drugs

All three individuals were subsequently arrested. A urine test conducted at the Central Police Division headquarters, where Nikhil was taken, revealed the presence of methamphetamine.

Previously, the police had reported that a man was shot in the abdomen during a confrontation with officers who were conducting a raid in the condominium.

SSS Chua sought medical attention at Singapore General Hospital and sustained a cut on the forehead, as well as abrasions on the right elbow and left forearm.

Nikhil could face imprisonment for up to seven years, corporal punishment in the form of caning, or a fine for intentionally causing harm to a public servant.

His sentencing is scheduled for June 16.

29 Y.O ADMITS TO MING ARCADE ATTACK THAT SAW MAN STABBED WITH HARPOON

0

S. Mageshwaran, a recalcitrant offender, was previously convicted for possessing a dangerous weapon, harassment, and traffic offenses; and he was out on bail when he handed a harpoon to his alleged accomplice, Sheran Raj Balasubramaniam, with the weapon later used to stab another individual.

The Harpoon Incident

On June 3, 2022, S. Mageshwaran took a harpoon with him to Cuscaden Road. He then passed it on to Sheran Raj Balasubramaniam, who used the harpoon to stab a 23-year-old man.

The victim was discovered bleeding profusely, with the weapon lodged in his back. Fortunately, he remained conscious and was immediately transported to the hospital for medical attention.

Mageshwaran’s Criminal History

S. Mageshwaran’s involvement in criminal activities did not begin with the harpoon incident. In fact, he had a previous conviction for possessing a dangerous weapon in 2019, which resulted in a three-year and three-month jail sentence.

He was released from prison in 2020, placed under a remission order that required him to stay out of trouble from September 3, 2020, to October 1, 2021.

However, Mageshwaran failed to comply with the order and reoffended on November 30, 2020.

The Incident in Little India

On that day, Mageshwaran, under the influence of alcohol, directed vulgar language at a 33-year-old policeman in Dunlop Street, Little India. This act led to his subsequent arrest and release on bail, setting the stage for the harpoon incident.

The harpoon incident

Sheran Raj, Mageshwaran’s alleged accomplice, played a pivotal role in the harpoon incident. He requested Mageshwaran’s presence at Candy Bar, located in Ming Arcade shopping center, on June 3, 2022.

Aware of potential altercations at the bar, Sheran Raj asked Mageshwaran to bring a weapon along. Mageshwaran agreed and had the harpoon in his possession when Sheran Raj picked him up in a taxi.

While en route to Candy Bar, Mageshwaran handed the tactical harpoon to Sheran Raj, who discreetly kept it in the left pocket of his shorts.

At approximately 4:30 am, outside Candy Bar, Sheran Raj unexpectedly used the harpoon to stab a man. The motive behind the attack remains undisclosed.

Simultaneously, Mageshwaran engaged in a verbal dispute with a 22-year-old man on Cuscaden Road. The situation escalated when the man’s friends intervened, prompting Mageshwaran to retrieve a machete from his mother’s flat.

He then proceeded to Labrador Park, where he committed criminal intimidation against a group of seven individuals.

Waving the machete, he charged towards them, causing fear and prompting them to flee. The police were notified and apprehended Mageshwaran shortly after the incident.

Additional Traffic Offenses

In a separate incident in September 2021, Mageshwaran was involved in traffic offenses, including driving without a license in Yishun. This further demonstrates his blatant disregard for the law and the safety of others.

The Arrest and Sentencing

Finally, on April 10, 2022, Mageshwaran’s former girlfriend contacted the police after being disturbed by someone shouting outside her flat.

Upon arriving at the scene, a 23-year-old policeman and his partner discovered Mageshwaran lying unconscious.

When he regained consciousness, he directed vulgarities towards the officers and even spat on the policeman’s left arm. As a result, Mageshwaran was arrested.

Mageshwaran is set to be sentenced today (11 July)/
