I AM LUCKY I HAVE RICH PARENTS, IF NOT I WOULD HAVE BEEN BANKRUPT LONG AGO

0

Growing up, I had a privileged childhood; my parents had deep pockets and an even deeper desire to make sure I had everything I wanted. I was spoiled in the sense that I was able to get whatever I wanted, and I was never told ‘no’.

This led me to develop a sense of entitlement, and I eventually found myself in a situation where I thought I could do whatever I wanted, with no repercussions.

Squandered away a lot of money to failed businesses, drinking and gambling

When I was in my 20s, I decided to try my hand at businesses as I did not want to work for people. I had no idea what I was doing and I invested a lot of money into a venture thinking that it would work.

I was too naive and inexperienced to understand the risks, and the venture quickly went south.

After that, I tried my hand in other ventures and was sure it would work but time and time again, I kept failing and failing.

I also made friends who were only there with me because they thought I was successful due to the image that I portrayed.

We spent a lot of time drinking and even gambling and before I knew it, I was in debt and I had no idea what to do.

Luckily, my parents stepped in and bailed me out

Fortunately, my parents stepped in and bailed me out. They paid off all of my debts and gave me some money to restart my life.

I knew that without their help, I would have been bankrupt and in a much worse situation.

I have to admit, I was extremely lucky that I had rich parents who paid off my debts from my failed businesses and my lifestyle of drinking and gambling with bad friends, or else I would have been bankrupt long ago.

ISTANA OPEN HOUSE SIBEI BUSY, QUEUE ALL THE WAY UNTIL PLAZA SINGAPURA

The Istana held their open house yesterday (1 May) for Labour, and the event saw attendees flocking to the venue by the hundreds.

In fact, according to videos shared online by netizens who attended the event, the queue was so long that it snaked across Dhoby Gaut all the way to Plaza Singapura.

Visitors were ready for “war”, armed with umbrellas and hats as they braved the heat and stood in line under the sweltering heat and humidity as they queued to enter the Istana.

A netizen who was in the queue, shared that she managed to enter the Istana after a 30 minute wait, and added that the worst part of the experience was the sun.

Netizens pointed out that the long queue was probably because the Istana open house only opens 5 times a year, and that it is a form of tourist attraction.

It was also closed for a while during the pandemic and only resumed back in 2021.

Istana Open House

The Hari Raya Puasa – Labour Day Istana Open House (IOH) will be held on Monday, 1 May 2023, 8.30am to 6.00pm. The IOH will be open to all visitors. AUDI HIT & RUN @ LAVENDER ST, HITS CAR FROM BEHIND & SENT IT FLYING BEFORE FLEEING

Facebook user Mcj Jackie See posted an appeal for information following a hit and run accident involving his friend and a black coloured Audi.

The hit and run accident happened on 27 April at about 1am along Lavender Street, and the OP described the offending vehicle as being a Black Audi that appears to be from the A series.

In the dashcam footage of the car that was hit, the black Audi could be seen coming up from behind and hitting the camcar from the side.

The resultant impact sent the car flying across the road and crashing into a stationary van at the side of the road, with about 4 vehicles in total being damaged.

The Audi then stopped for a brief moment before driving away from the scene.

MY BF’S CRAZY EX-WIFE KEEPS DISRUPTING OUR LIVES, MAKES HER KIDS CALL ME NAMES

0

A netizen took to social media to seek advice on whether she is able to file a report to the authorities against her partner’s ex wife because she has been disrupting their lives and trying to turn her partner’s kids against her.

Here is her story

Hi there can anyone advise me if I am able to file a police report against my partner’s crazy ex wife. for the past year since we’ve been together, she’s made things incredibly hard even though they are divorced officially.

She would always video call to spot check on him using their kids as an excuse, calling me names as well and indirectly the kid has called me names too because of their mum’s influence.

She’s also stalking my socials and using it to spark arguments with my partner and this has caused him much happiness and distress to be honest and affected our relationship to the point now I’m going for therapy because it was so much to take in.

Was wondering if the police would be able to do anything about it because she was the one who cheated and had an affair and then went crazy and emotionally affected everyone including his family after I got together with my ex.

Thanks.

Here are what netizens think

  • Wow you’re brave to stay with your partner despite his crazy ex
  • Just wondering why nvr block her number and on your socials? Then she won’t be able to call or see what you post?

JAYWALKING ELDERLY WOMAN KILLED AFTER BEING HIT BY CAR ALONG ANSON ROAD

A video emerged online showing a purported elderly woman being knocked down by a car while jaywalking across the road.

According to Beh Chia Lor – Singapore Road’s Facebook page, the incident took place outside International Plaza on 28 April, and was captured on the dashcam of another car that was passing by at the time.

A black car was seen in the video making a right turn from a traffic junction before colliding with a woman away from the view of the camera.

The pedestrian, who was purportedly jaywalking at the time, remained on the ground motionless after the impact, as what appeared to be a license plate fell off from the car.

Other pedestrians who were passing by at the time rushed onto the road to render aid to the stricken woman, who remained unmoving, as the driver of the car also alighted to check on the injured woman.

Another woman wearing black was also seen crouched over the pedestrian and making a phone call, presumably to call for help.

Update: According to The Singapore Police Force, the 67-year-old elderly woman was unconscious when conveyed to Singapore General Hospital.

She later succumbed to her injuries and passed away, the police are investigating the incident.

Here is what the netizen said

Posting as video witness. Elderly auntie jaywalking knocked down by car.

Most likely the driver could not notice the elderly woman due to curved road. Wishing the auntie full and speedy recovery. Happened on 28-04-2023 outside International Plaza.

Netizens’ comments

  1. Time to penalise those who jaywalk on the road without checking the traffic and ensure their own or other ppl’s safety. Sometimes it is really unfair to the drivers especially if the person jaywalk at driver’s blind spot, decided to step in front of the car just when the car is very near to them or suddenly appear out of nowhere. Driving on the road is already stressful enough.
  2. It’s definitely not right to jaywalk and some old people may not ONLY think so BUT may not be able to use the correct PEDESTRIAN crossings. We, the drivers should be alert at all times and look out and give allowance especially to the aged pedestrians as they were slow and sometimes they couldn’t distinguish the right from wrong. No point in BLAMING…just be patient!
  3. That first responder seems to have some medical know-how. I love how she ran from so far away to tend to that auntie. Thank you dear lady.
  4. Everytime when make a slight turn please forward and inward your body movement due to the blocking of the windscreen frame. Sometimes vehicle and pedestrian move at the same time .

MY GF SAID THAT MY $11K SALARY A MONTH IS TOO POOR TO AFFORD A BUNGALOW

0

I was recently scrolling through my Facebook feed when I saw a post from a friend of mine bragging about her recent purchase of a bungalow. It was a beautiful house and I couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy. As I was admiring the house, my girlfriend noticed what I was doing and asked me if I wanted to buy a house like that. I told her that I couldn’t afford something like that and she replied that I should be able to with my $11k salary a month.

That’s when my heart sank.

My salary may seem like a lot of money to some, but in reality it just barely covers all my monthly expenses. Sure, I’ve been able to save a bit here and there, but nothing that would be enough to purchase a bungalow.

I tried to explain this to my girlfriend, but she wasn’t convinced. She insisted that I should be able to afford something like that and that I just wasn’t trying hard enough. It felt like a slap in the face, as if she was implying that I was lazy and not taking advantage of my salary.

I was so angry and frustrated at her words. My salary may not be enough to buy a bungalow, but it’s enough to pay my rent, buy groceries, and still have a bit of money left over for other things. I’m doing my best to make ends meet, but it’s not easy.

I think the thing that bothers me the most about this situation is the fact that my girlfriend doesn’t seem to understand how difficult it can be to make ends meet on a salary like mine. She’s never had to worry about money, so it’s hard for her to understand the struggles that come with living paycheck to paycheck.

It’s also hard for me to accept her criticism, because it feels like she’s accusing me of not doing enough with my salary. I work hard and do my best to make the most of my money, but it’s still not enough to buy something like a bungalow.

I guess the lesson to be learned here is that you can’t judge someone’s financial situation based on their salary alone. Everyone has different needs and expenses, so what’s enough for one person may not be enough for another. My salary may not be enough to buy a bungalow, but it’s enough for me to get by and that’s all that matters.

MAN FINDS IT HARD GOING BACK TO STUDIES AFTER FINISHING HIS NATIONAL SERVICE

Wondering if anyone can relate when it comes to assignments….

Anyone ever feel a high level of anxiety and no confidence when starting and doing assignments?

After coming out of NS and not studying for about 4 years, I feel so lost. I can’t remember of my academic tools and tricks that I used to use and feel so blur when it comes to writing or even starting an assignment. I even forgot how to do basic stuff like formatting and structure on Microsoft Word.

I used to usually get around 70-75% for my subjects from sec sch till Poly without much stress or worry. Now in my 1st year of uni I usually get between 60-80% for my assignments (depending on leniency of marker lol), but I feel so lost and anxious to actually do the assignments to the point that I usually get between 2-3 hours of sleep in the 3-4 weeks of assignment weeks that we have in a module.

Maybe I just have no confidence in myself to do academic work after being away from it for so many years even though I still have the ability to do work well. The lack of direction and feedback from lecturers is also really frustrating, I never know if I was in the right direction for learning or doing work until the module is over and all our grades are released. I hope this feeling of assignment/project anxiety goes away in time.

Also probably just me being a dumbass but even the help of ChatGPT has done little to help ease my anxiety, especially since most of my assignments are practical/research heavy and based on recent events and ChatGPT has no access to the internet and is updated till September 2021. It mostly only helps me with my writing style and grammar.

It feels that my process of doing things are just not right at all, I mostly just try to find the right structure and fill in content in whatever way I can.

Here are what netizens think:

  • I think you just have to keep at it, accept that it will take some time, the system sucks for guys who have to do ns. The other option is switch to a course which doesn’t require prior knowledge eg business or law or accounting. Doing stem subjects after ns is not easy. Fked up system. Just remember that other guys have done it before and your grades don’t matter once you start work
  • In uni, it’s even worse. Not only are students extremely smart, many also keep cross checking assignments, pushing up the bell curve even steeper. It’s also not unsurprising to see cases of plagiarism or even cheating (online exams) here.
  • No. Went to study masters after working for a few years, still (overly) confident of my work.

MAN TELLS GF TO DYE HER HAIR PINK OR HIS “LITTLE BROTHER” WON’T WORK

I was recently in a relationship with a guy who I thought was the perfect guy for me. We had been dating for about a year and things were going great.

He was kind, and considerate, and we had a lot of fun together.

One day, out of the blue, he asked me to dye my hair pink. At first, I was taken aback, as this was not a request I had ever expected to hear from him. After some thought, I agreed, and he seemed really happy about it.

I thought everything was going to be fine, until he started making some strange requests of me.

He asked me to do things like wear more revealing clothing and act more flirtatiously in public. He even told me that if I didn’t do these things, his “penis wouldn’t be able to get erect”little brother” won’t stand up. I was so confused by this, and I asked him why he was asking me to do these things.

He told me that he had been watching a lot of anime lately, and he thought that this was the way to get a girl’s attention.

He said that if I didn’t do what he asked, his “little brother will die”. I was appalled by this and couldn’t believe that he would make such a ridiculous demand of me.

I tried to talk him out of it, but he kept insisting that I had to do it or else. I was so frustrated and confused by this, and I didn’t know what to do. I ended up dyeing my hair pink, but it felt like I was being forced into it. I felt like he was using me, and I didn’t like it at all.

Luckily I work a shift job and no one cares how I look or dress.

In the end, I decided to end the relationship. I now know that no one should ever make demands of their partner like this. It’s important to remember that relationships should be based on mutual respect and understanding, not one person trying to control the other.

DOCTOR SAYS HUMANITY IS HOPELESS “I SEE IDIOTS DAILY”

0

Humanity is hopeless

I am a doctor working for the past 15 years at both the hospital and now GP clinic.

After I graduated, as much as I want to uphold the oath in serving the sick, I find myself feeling despair for the general public as time goes by. Call me irresponsible but you do not know the effort I put into serving the community selflessly as long as I could.

Every encounter with idiots and stupid people slowly chips away the drive and passion I once had to helping people out of their medical problems. Unfortunately they are not rare or uncommon. 30% is the rough estimate percentage of idiots I see daily. The most common type of idiots I see are liars.

Other types include self-entitled, demanding, abusive, stubborn and etc. It made me come to a conclusion that this profession is meaningless. I do not see the reason in helping out idiots, I do not think they deserve it. They waste my time that I could have meaningfully spend on genuine patients.

Simply search for any hospital or clinics in Google Maps, read the reviews and you will understand the public’s attitude. I’m confident that I would not be the only one with this mentality.

I give up. Good luck to humanity.

Here are what netizens think:

  • You must be salaried. Open your own clinic and let life take over ideals.
  • Serve with a willing heart. Above all, you had the opportunity to read medicine, amongst the 1 percentile of courses. Consider your blessings and every grudge and complaints will diminish.
  • Understood that some may try to fake a sickness but i think its not right for a doctor to say such words. Even if the person have a mild sickness its still considered sick. If they find out which doctor, im sure that clinic will have a very bad review. The best place for u to attend to patients that u felt is real and challenging is hospital. Nowhere else
  • The problem I see in most young doctors is that they don’t know what to do. Some will even google to show you the details! To be honest, I know my own body better than anyone else. Sometimes, they didn’t believe that you had had such a pain and will think that it’s funny or strange. Sometimes, they didn’t even bother to touch the part to check. Like that I also can be a doctor you know!

MAN CONFRONTED FOR EATING ON MRT SAYS: ” NOT SCARE, $500 FINE WON’T BE ENFORCED”

0

Eating/drinking on the train seems really more common nowadays (like every 20-30 rides i see it happening).

This time I actually went up to the the person and told them what they are doing is illegal. All I got was very lame and nonchalant excuses like “I’m not spilling anything; the $500 fine won’t be enforced anyway; this is not as serious as some others who….”, as if I was the one being a busybody.

Really hope the authorities as a whole can do something about this.

Most of us do not have the luxury of private transport and trains can get very crowded sometimes, with people sitting/standing almost touching one another. Really don’t want to endure all that in an unhygienic environment as well. Or have our public transport be a hotbed for spread of diseases.

I remember when I was a kid, the only time someone ate or drank on the train was when it was an emergency. It was either an elderly person who had forgotten to bring their medication, or a parent with a little child who might be in need of a snack. It was rare, and if it did happen, no one would make a fuss about it.

Fast forward to today and it seems that eating and drinking on the train has become the norm. It’s honestly quite shocking to witness, especially when I’m travelling during peak hours. It’s a wonder how people can be so inconsiderate, and how they don’t think twice before they tuck into their food and drinks.

It’s understandable that it can be hard to find time to eat and drink during a busy day, but that doesn’t make it any less annoying for other passengers. It’s one thing to just sneak in a sandwich or a can of juice, but some people take it much further. I’ve seen people bringing in full meals, ordering takeaways, and even bringing in alcohol.

It’s even worse when people don’t bother to clean up after themselves. Empty wrappers and cans are scattered everywhere, and the smell of their food lingers in the air. It’s both unhygienic and unsightly, and it’s a health hazard to those who are particularly sensitive to smells.

The fact that eating and drinking on the train is illegal doesn’t seem to put off some people. They think they can get away with it because the authorities aren’t actively enforcing the rules. But this doesn’t mean they can’t be fined if they are caught. The fine for eating or drinking on the train is up to $500, and it’s time that people realize that this isn’t something to be taken lightly.

It’s also worth considering the environmental impact of eating and drinking on the train. All that packaging and food waste can contribute to the littering problem, and it’s a lot harder to clean up on a moving train. It also takes away from the aesthetics of the train ride; it’s not very pleasant to be surrounded by rubbish and food smells.

I think it’s time that the authorities do something about this issue. Having regular patrols on the trains would be a good start, as it would hopefully deter people from eating and drinking on the train. It would also be helpful to remind people that eating and drinking on the train is illegal, and that they can be fined if they are caught.

Eating and drinking on the train is becoming an increasingly common problem, and it’s something that needs to be addressed. It’s not only annoying and unsightly, but it can also be a health hazard and contribute to the littering problem. It’s time that we all take responsibility for our actions, and be mindful of the rules when we’re on public transport.
