AUNTIE SLAP 8 Y.O GIRL IN THE FACE FOR ACCIDENTALLY STEPPING ON HER FOOT IN MRT

Connie Soh, 45-years-old, pleaded guilty on 28 May to one charge of voluntarily causing hurt.

She admitted to slapping the face of an 8-year-old girl in the MRT train because the little girl accidentally stepped on her foot.

Another charge of using criminal force to poke the nose of the victim’s mother will be considered during sentencing.

Soh’s punishment will be enhanced because the victim is under 14-years-old.

What happened?

On 15 July 2020, at around 1.47pm, the 8-year-old victim accidentally stepped on Soh’s foot while boarding the MRT with her mother.

The girl apologised to Soh, who didn’t hear it because she was talking loudly on her phone at the time.

Soh then confronted the girl’s mother, asking why her daughter didn’t apologise.

The mother said that her daughter did, and the two then got into an argument.

As the MRT reached Yew Tee, the victim and her mother were leaving the train when Soh slapped the girl on her left cheek, trying to prevent her from leaving the MRT without apologising.

The girl then cried and the police were called in.

The victim was then taken to NUH by her mother where a doctor noted that the girl had a bruise on her left cheek (or left cheek contusion).

She was given 2 days MC and excused from physical activity.

Soh will be sentenced on 18 June and she faces double the maximum penalty as the victim was under 14.

PHASE 2 (HEIGHTENED ALERT): SOME MAIDS STILL MADE TO WORK ON OFF DAY, WITH NO PAY

A few maids spoke to ST, saying that they are still being made to work during their rest days.

Domestic workers were “strongly encouraged” by the MOM to stay home during the Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) period, thus they are home on Sundays (their rest days).

However, they are still being made to work on their rest days and are doing so without compensation.

One of the maids was asked to cook and do laundry on her rest days and she asked her employer if she could get paid for working on her day off, she was rejected.

This is depite MOM saying that maids should not be assigned work on their rest days.

And if the maids agree to do work on their rest days, employers have to pay them in lieu.
