DELHI’S HEALTH MINISTER: “IT IS WRONG TO SAY THERE’S NO S’PORE VARIANT”

In the wake of Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s “Singapore variant” remark and urging India to ban all flights with Singapore, Delhi’s Health Minister Satyendar Jain has since joined the fray and said that there is a “different strain” of Covid-19 in Singapore.

Jain said:

“There are many strains of coronavirus in India at present… Their presence is ascertained through genome sequencing. It is a different strain (in Singapore) indeed. Whether it is from Singapore, Delhi, America or London, what”s important is that the strains are different.”

He then categorically highlighted his point:

It is wrong to say it is not a different variant… The picture will be clear in some time. We will inform you about it.”

Jain’s remarks come hot on the heels of Singapore’s MFA reaching out to the India’s High Commissioner, P Kumaran, to express concerns over Kejriwal’s “Singapore variant” remarks.

Singapore’s Ministry of Health also released a statement addressing the claims.

Most notably, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan also took to social media to respond to Arvind Kejriwal.

THAI RESTAURANT AT GOLDEN MILE ALLEGEDLY SELLING PIG BLOOD CURD

A Thai restaurant located at Golden Mile Tower is being investigated for allegedly selling pig blood curd (think beancurd, but made with pig blood), according to a media released earlier today (19 May) by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).

An operation was conducted at the restaurant, which is unnamed, by the SFA, who acted on a tip off.

SFA found the restaurant selling a dish containing pig blood curd, and is now being investigated for the illegal sale and possession for sale of animal blood curd.

Unsold pre-packed pig blood was also seized.

The sale of animal blood food products are banned in Singapore, because blood can easily support the growth of bacteria and spread diseases.

It can also introduce food borne pathogens into blood food products.

MFA MET INDIA’S HIGH COMMISSIONER, CONCERNED ABOUT “S’PORE VARIANT” CLAIM

The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement earlier today (19 May) saying that they regret they “unfounded assertions” made by Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s Chief Minister, on his Facebook and Twitter.

Kejriwal had claimed that a Covid-19 variant that was “found in Singapore was extremely dangerous” for children, which could pave the way for a third wave of infections in India.

He has since been slammed on various networks and social media for not doing his due diligence on fact checking before releasing his statements.

The B.1.617.2 Covid-19 variant in question was actually first detected in India.

MFA revealed that they have met the High Commissioner of India, P Kumaran, to express their concern and disappointment that a prominent political figure had “failed to ascertain the facts before making such claims”.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vivian Balakrishnan also took to Twitter and Facebook to respond emphatically to Kejriwal.

The Ministry of Health also released a statement addressing the sensational, unfounded claim.

The government recently advised people to wear masks with high filtration capabilities when they need to go out.

A guy was seen taking that advice to a whole new level.

He was seen with an opened umbrella inside an MRT, shielding himself from the other commuters.

Maybe if he cannot see Covid-19, Covid-19 also cannot see him.
