MAN LOST HIS LEGS, PENS HIS EXPERIENCE AT TAN TOCK SENG HOSPITAL

Netizen Charantavida Abdusalaam posted on Facebook on his process of how he lost his legs.

His post has since gained traction on social media with over 200 shares.

Here is his story (Copied from his Facebook post):

Come 2025 , 25 percent of Singapore Aged population will be over 65. As we age , we will need to find a reliable hospital to take care of our future healthcare needs. If you have chosen Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) , beware and be on alert. If there is anything amiss , please consult your advocate fast. Because the hospital is protected by the “LIMITATION ACT”. This act is very new to me. I humbly hope the Honorable Law Mr. K Shanmugam will explain to us what is actually this act. I will like to share my bitter experience that I had with TTSH with the good intention my social media friends , brothers and sisters alike , will not end up in the state I am now. My true story to the best of my knowledge.

Today is 06-06-2022. And this story happened 7 years back. In 06-06-2015 , i went by taxi to TTSH to treat a fever of 39 degree Celsius. The A&E doctor put me on observation that night. The next following day Dr Sadana and her team of doctors approach me and told me the fever was due to infection of the wound below my left foot. I told her my wound was taken care by a private nurse. She convinced me if I allow her to treat , she can save my leg. Because the wound is still new and raw. Seeing her confidence , I agreed. I went through ballooning , bypass of the vein , even allow a plastic surgeon a portion of my skin. Everything went well until one fine day at Level 2 TTSH. When I was doing dialysis , the Filipino nurse showed me a small bottle of drug. She was told to induce the drug into my blood system during dialysis. I told her I was not informed. But she told me she will follow the doctor’s order and ask me to ask the doctor the next day. But i never made it. I woke up 4 months later. After i woke up , i realized after the drug was induced to me , I had to be rushed to ICU and put on a life supporting machine almost 2 months. After 4 days in ICU , the doctors told my family , that my survival chances are less than 5 percent. But my eldest son was adamant. He refused to allow the doctors to take me off the life support machine.

Due to the medical negligence , I , a 55-year-old Senior Citizen , had to be rushed to a ICU and put on a life support for almost 2 months. After 2 months , I managed to regain my conscious. With the grace of the almighty Allah , I came back alive. But I have to pay a high price for it.

1) They created a hole in my throat : it made me speechless for months

2) A tube is inserted through my nose : I had to be fed with milk and liquid food for months.

3) My leg had to be amputated : this is the leg they promised to save.

4) My 2 hands were damage : Dr Sadana said it was due to the recklessness of the ICU Unit

5) After doing all this misshape , to bring me back to normalcy , they charged the hospital bill to my account.

After I was discharged from ICU , I went back to my normal ward in TTSH. There the business office approached my family. And told them , my initial Medisave of $35,000 has been used up and they require my family to top up cash into my Medisave Account. I told them we have no money to top up cash. Due to that , they forcefully , shifted me to Ren Ci Community Hospital.

There a porter brought me in a wheelchair to the MRI suite in TTSH. The porter and the MRI attendant quarrel because i should have been brought over in a bed. The porter left angrily , leaving me behind. The MRI attendant , called 7 of her friends. All 8 tried to carry me from wheelchair to the bed , in the process , my right leg was stucked to the bolt of the bed and was torn. Due to that , after 2 months of discharge , due to gangrene , I had to amputate that leg. But I was shock when TTSH told me , they are not responsible for the right leg , claiming that it was under Ren Ci. But i find it difficult to believe. Everything was under TTSH from the porter , MRI Suite , the doctors. And worst of all , after 323 days of admission , when i was discharged , I was only issued one and one hospital bill under TTSH. Ren Ci did not provide me any bill. In total , i was in hospital for nearly 1 year. Due to all these incidents , i became total and permanently disabled , two legs amputated(a.k.a).

I will like to ask Tan Tock Seng Hospital these few questions.

Question 1

I went for a left foot treatment. I was active and agile. And was ask to do left foot exercise , daily with my Malay Therapist and was under the watchful eyes of specialist and professional doctors. Then why did i end up in ICU?

Question 2

Your doctors caused me this misshape. Then why was I ask to pay for the mistakes done by your doctors? Our Honorable Prime Minister , Mr. Lee Hsien Long , assured Singaporeans , that our medisave will be wisely use by the doctors. Why in my case for a treatment of a left foot , I was charged a hefty bill of $51,000?

Question 3

I was ask to stay in hospital for 323 days for a treatment of a left foot. Is this normal?

Knowing the Limitation Act , you purposely buy time. To make the case over in May. You acknowledge my letter of complaint in Early January 2019 and “pretend” to arrange a Doctor-Patient on 24-02-2019. I called it “pretends” because only Dr Sadana and I was invited. The coordinator Rachel , disallows any video or audio recording. No medical expert was present nor were there any MOH official. The judge of the day , Professor Glen , was missing. He did not even attend the meeting nor meet the patient. Shamelessly the Professor gave his written judgement in May.

Legal Aid Bureau(LAB) represent me for 8 months and they quit. Making a mockery of my poverty. But later they claimed , they could not forward my case for a trial in a open court because my case has been nullified.

I was supposed to take a Raid of Summon in May 2019 against Tan Tock Seng. And that’s when I realize Tan Tock Seng made a fool out of me by arranging a Patient-Doctor meeting. To pretend as though they are investigating the case.

Tan Tock Seng Hospital handle human lives. I nearly lost my life. Tan Tock Seng should not conceal the Truth and defend the wrongdoings of their doctors. Instead, they should provide full security and be accountable. Be socially and morally responsible for the welfare and wellbeing of their patients. Here I trusted the hospital. At the end of the day , I lost my 2 legs and 2 hands. And was made a permanently disabled man. They refused to pay me compensation using the Limitation Act. And they also overcharged me by asking me to pay for the damage they did to me. To amputate my right leg , they took less than a week. Can TTSH tell me in detail why they took 323 days to amputate my left leg? It was the same doctors. Why the stark difference? If they were to amputate my legs , why did they assign a plastic surgeon to graft a portion of my skin , informing me they need it to cover my wound below my leg? In fact , before these incidents in 2015 , I never had such incident any time before my lifetime age. Now after 6 years of discharge , I never had a relapsed again. Then TTSH , why are you claiming you are innocent? Due to this case my cpf MediSave is zero. My new Medical Social Worker , Ms. Belle ,is harassing my children to activate their Medisave and pay for my medical arrears. And she refused to activate my Medifund outpatient. I tried to ask my MP to appeal. But she sarcastically replied , you can ask MP to send 100 of letters , the Hospital won’t entertain.

That is why I am writing in this Facebook post to share my agony to everyone that I was victimized and hope TTSH and together with MOH will jointly do a thorough investigation again on my matter. Conscience matters. Justice prevails. I still live till today hoping I will get the justice I deserve.

The only thing kept me going till now is the help given by National Kidney Foundation(NKF) , Tzu Chi Foundation for assisting my Ambulance Assistance , previous TTSH Social workers who were understanding and assisted to provide me with outpatient medications for last 6 years. They never left me without any medications. But now I am left with no medications. I bless everybody. I pray and wish no one to go through what I went through. May God bless us. Takecare.

9 Y.O S’PORE GIRL SWALLOWED MAGNETIC BALLS, INTESTINES PUNCTURED

A 9-year-old girl had her small intestines punctured after swallowing a bunch of small magnetic balls that constricted inside her body, according to The Straits Times.

She became sick for 2 weeks, with the doctor not knowing what was wrong initially.

Vomited green substance

She had vomited green substances on 9 May and she was then brought to the Kk Women’s and Children’s Hospital by her parents.

The doctor there then prescribed antibiotics to the girl after deducing that she was suffering from a viral infection.

But the girl then started vomiting again about 1.5 weeks later, and she was then brought to Thomson Medical Centre on 19 May.

Couldn’t remain upright

By then the girl couldn’t even remain upright and had to be sent in on a wheelchair, with her mother adding that her daughter had lost 3kg by then and was having difficulties consuming fluids.

A pediatric surgeon at Thomson Medical Centre, Dr Nidhu Jasm, asked the girl what the ate and she told the doctor that she was always vomiting and unable to eat.

An ultrasound scan was then performed but it turned out inconclusive, as the doctor could only see diluted bubbles.

Magnetic balls found

An x-ray was then performed and a total of 14 magnetic balls were then found in her small intestines, with each magnetic ball measuring about 3-5mm in diameter.

She was then sent for an emergency surgery that lasted about 4 hours to remove the magnets, with about two stretches of her small intestines measuring 3.5cm and 6.5cm being cut out of her body because of irreversible damage.

Dr Nighy added that the magnets had taken a “shortcut” of sorts, instead of following the route through the small intestines, and the magnets were stuck to each other from different parts of the intestines.

Ruptured a hole in the intestines

A blockage was then caused which resulted in the girl vomiting, and the magnets were so strong that they caused a hole in her small intestines.

Dr Nidhu further added that the magnets being squeezed together would’ve blown a hole in the girl’s intestine, but the girl was fortunately diagnosed in time.

She was then placed on a diet of liquids for 2 days after the operation and switched to a porridge-based diet from day 3 onwards, and she has since recovered fully.

Toy bought from Lazada

ST also reported that the magnets came from a toy that the parents had bought from Lazada for about $17, consisting of 216 magnetic balls.

Dr Nidhu further explained that these magnetic toys are dangerous when swallowed, as compared to foreign objects like coins which don’t stick to each other and will eventually come out of the system naturally.

Magnets, in comparison, get stuck along the way because of their magnetism and would require surgical options to remove them.

The magnetic toy that the parents bought has since been thrown away by the girl’s parents.

MAN CRASHED ALLEGEDLY STOLEN CAR, THEN RESISTS ARREST BY 5 POLICE OFFICERS

A 42-year-old man was arrested following an accident with a truck, with the car that he was driving allegedly stolen, according to Shin Min Daily News.

The incident happened on 5 June at about 5.55pm, along Sengkang East Way heading towards Sengkang West Way.

The car had hit the rear of the truck, with the bonnet of the car being crushed by the impact of the collision, and fragments were seen strewn across the road.

Resisting arrest

The man was seen struggling and resisting arrest when the police officers tried to subdue him, and he was reported shouting that his chest hurts as he shouted at them to let go, according to SMDN.

He was seen in photos being subdued by about 5 police officers, and after he was handcuffed, he was carried into the police car by 4 officers.

The 30-year-old truck driver in the accident was conveyed to Sengkang General Hospital conscious.

A spokesperson for the Singapore Police Force confirmed that the man was arrested for theft and at the time of writing, police investigations are still ongoing.

MAN ARRESTED FOR SETTING FIRE, POINTING KNIFE & STEALING SLIPPERS

The Singapore Police Force said in a statement that a 23-year-old man was arrested for a slew of offences, including allegedly causing a fire at a residential flat at Buangkok Crescent.

The police were alerted to a case of fire allegedly set by the man on 2 June at about 2.08am, at a unit at Block 999A Buangkok Crescent.

The identity of the alleged perpetrator was established by the police and he was subsequently arrested on the same day.

According to the police’s preliminary investigation, the man is also being suspected of being involved in another incident on 25 May at about 9.58pm, where he allegedly pointed a knife at a member of the public at Block 412 Yishun Ring Road.

The man also allegedly stole a pair of slippers from a nearby shop.

The knife that the man had pointed at the victim was seized by the police as a case exhibit, and the police reiterated their stance against lawbreakers.

“The police have zero tolerance towards such brazen acts and will not hesitate to act against those who blatantly disregard the law.”

DRIVER CRASHED BLUESG CAR, CHARGED $5K FOR DAMAGING HOOD & BUMPER

A driver who rented a BlueSG car had crashed the vehicle into a road sign and damaged the bumper and hood.

The accident happened on 6 June.

He then made police report as well as went to Indeco to file an accident report as instructed by the car sharing company’s customer service department.

He said that the staff at Indeco allegedly told him that the cost of repair “won’t be too high” based on the accident photos.

However, the driver alleged that BlueSG tried to deduct $5,750 from him without any prior notice and breaking down of what’s being repaired.

Here is what he said

I’m recommended by a friend to join the group for possible solution on the excess and would like to find out more on “surveyer”.

The accident happened on 1st May, I accidentally hit the road sign and caused a slight dent to the left side of the hood and bumper. Luckily the road sign is not damaged.

The towing uncle came and said that the repair cost should be just a few hundred dollars while the car was still operational since no air bag came out.

So I continued to the nearest police post to make police report and I went to Indeco to file the accident report as per customer service’s instruction.

The staff at Indeco also mentioned that the cost of repair will not be too high after he saw the photos of the accident scene.

However, what surprised me the most is that BlueSG was trying to deduct the $5,750.00 without any prior notice and NO BREAKING DOWN of what’s being repaired and I demand for the breaking down of the cost. So far still no reply. Luckily there’s insufficient cash for them to deduct from my account.

I understand I’m fully responsible to it due to mistakes in maneuver that BlueSG indicated that $750 is the admin fee or towing but how can it be possible to charge at $5,000 excess for damaging the hood and bumper?!

The customer service stuff called again on 4 June and they keep on mentioning that no breaking down would be provided since it’s stated on T&C. I told her that I’m not convinced by it unless a list of items repaired is shown. Then she said that I can get a “surveyer” to appeal for the cost. I’m really confused by that and hope to get a clearer picture with some advise.

Thanks for taking your time reading this post! Please comment or PM me if you faced same situation as I do.

The SCDF rescuers used a tool that appears to be a hammer and smashed the three corners of the glass at the rear door and removed the glass safely.

The boy was ultimately rescued.

Another video showed the boy reunited with his mother, presumably, and was seen crying from the traumatising experience.

The SCDF said that they received a call for help at 12 Lim Liak Street on 5 June at about 11.40am, and the rescuers utilised rescue equipment to free the trapped child.

The boy was later assessed by a paramedic on site and found to be unharmed and well.

OCD GF INSIST TO IRON BEDSHEETS, QUARRELS WITH BF

0

I dated this older guy (34yo and I’m 27) for a few months and he lived at my place. He still paid for his rent at his place, but he stayed with me because I live in 2 bedder apartment by myself. We did house chores equally. The only exception was laundry, I agreed to do the laundry, ironing and putting back clothes to the closet. I didn’t mind it because I’m pretty particular with separating laundry as well as ironing every single thing including bed sheets and quilt covers. It’s a little too much, but I grew up in a family that does it and I am not asking anyone to help me do it.

One time I was on call for a week, so I decided to sleep on the sofa in the second bedroom so that I wouldn’t wake him up every time I get a call.

I just changed the bed sheet and the quilt cover earlier that week and hadn’t slept on it ever since. One night before bed, I came to him to say goodnight and I saw the quilt was very crumpled and the bed was messy. So I scolded him for making it messy.

He then joked around and wrapped himself with the blanket and rolled with it all over the bed. I was annoyed and said “fine you can do that as long as you iron it tomorrow”.

He got mad immediately because of what I said and said “if you ask me to iron, then I don’t want to sleep here anymore!”. I was taken aback by what he said, but because it was already late I cut it short and just say good night and went to the other room.

In the morning, he woke me up to ask if I wanted to go to the park with my dog. I was still pissed so I told him that what he said last night was childish as I spent hours ironing the bed sheets and quilt covers and all I asked was for him to be considerate and not make it crumpled on purpose; but instead of saying sorry, he threatened to not stay with me anymore.

After I finished my sentences, he threatened to leave again for the same reason, “if I can’t roll on the bed, I cannot stay here anymore”. And then he insisted that we need to discuss about the rolling on the bed rules because he still wanted to do it (btw we were already living together for 5 months and this was never an issue).

And he also said he was not gonna comply with my request because then I’m changing him as a person. he said that we were just different, he’s just the kind of person that likes to roll on his bed, and if he can’t have that he’s not going to be happy.

FYI, I never mind it if the bed gets messy when he sleeps, it’s something that he can’t control. I’m also okay if he rolls as long as he doesn’t wrap himself in the blanket when he does it. The thing that I’m most troubled with is the fact that he doesn’t appreciate the effort I put in to make the bed feels nice to sleep in and his response to the request that I think is rational, which is not to roll around intentionally to make it all crumpled, is just ridiculous.

It’s just something that I would never imagine fighting about with an adult.

UNCLE INSIDE MRT SHOUTS AT MAN: “DON’T TOUCH MY BACKSIDE!”

A video emerged online showing a man shouting at another commuter inside an MRT for brushing against him on the North East Line.

The incident happened on 5 June at about 8.45pm.

The man wearing a black vest-hoodie (with his mask not being worn properly over his nose), was seen in the video shouting at the younger man for touching his backside.

The commuter had apparently accidentally brushed against him when walking past him, and the man then started shouting at him.

He said “SAY EXCUSE ME! DO YOU UNDERSTAND! EH DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORD? ANSWER! I SAID ANSWER! DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORD! SAY EXCUSE ME!”

Another commuter was filming the incident at the time and tried to intervene, to which the man then turned around and shouted at him “EH F YOU!”

He then added that “I got my right to ask people not to touch my backside! don’t be a kaypoh! you kaypoh! not your problem!”

Others tried to intervene, and faced hostility from the man.

Another computer told the man that the train is a public space, to which the man then retorted: “PUBLIC YOUR FATHER PLACE AH! CAN TOUCH BACKSIDE AND GO IN AH?”

The man later alighted at Boon Keng MRT station after another commuter made a call for assistance.
