VISITORS/LONG-TERM PASS HOLDERS TRAVELLING FROM INDIA, BANNED FROM ENTERING S’PORE

Singapore Education Minister and Co-Chair of the Multi Ministry Task Force of the Covid-19 pandemic, Lawrence Wong, said on 22 April that all long-term pass holders and short term visitors who have travelled to India within the last 14 days will not be allowed to enter or transit through Singapore.

Singapore is going on heightened alert against Covid-19, as the situation in India has worsened with the emergence of a new “double-mutant” variant of the coronavirus, as well as the world’s biggest single day surge of Covid-19 cases – India saw more than 300,000 cases of Covid-19 within 24 hours as the country braces itself for the second wave of infections.

Wong added that people who have travelled to india recently and have not completed their 14-day SHN by 11.59pm on Thursday night (22 April), will have to serve their additional 7-day SHN at a dedicated facility rather than at home.

The new move takes effect from tonight, 23 April, at 11.59pm.

The Ministry of Health has also confirmed that the 17 workers at Westlite Woodlands Dormitory who were found with Covid-19, have recovered and that there is no evidence that these cases were linked to India or the new double-mutant variant emerging there.

Gan Kim Yong, the Health Minister, urges Singaporeans to continue to be socially responsible and adhere to safe management measures, including those who have already been vaccinated.

MALAY TUTOR ALLEGEDLY RACIALLY DISCRIMINATED, CALLS OUT “CHINESE PRIVILEGE”

A Singaporean Malay tutor took to Facebook to share how, despite all that has been done, his abilities are still judged on his race.

He says that this is not a one off and that it has happened many times.

He shares that he will go to the house for the tutoring session, and his student’s mother will joke, giggle and laugh about how she didn’t realise he was Malay.

Then after the session, she would call the agency and tell them that he is not a good fit.

He said that sometimes, he would go to the house for the tutoring sessions and the student’s mother would barge into the room and say that something urgent came up and that he has to leave.

The mother would then call the agency up and say that he is not a good fit.

He laments being constantly looked at and judged by the colour of his skin.

He wrote that he knows for a face that Chinese people cannot handle it when he asks them if they are Chinese of when he says that he didn’t realise they were Chinese.

He added:

“You think you wear your Saree or Baju Kurung once a year during Racial Harmony Day, watch a belly dance performance and take photos with your friends in your outfits in 2001, and it absolves you of your discrimination?”

He summed up his post saying that he is very tired and sad.

HEARTLESS STAFF REFUSE TO CALL BOSS TO ALLOW FAMILY TO VISIT GRANDPA ON DEATHBED

It is understandable that during COVID-19 there will be strict rules and laws all around Singapore.

The family was called in by Assisi Hospice staff on 21st April 2021 to say goodbyes to a loving grandfather. Family members rushed down to the Hospice but were denied entry by the security guard. Saying that it is the Hospice’s rule to only allow up to 6 people at one time due to COVID-19.

The family knew that at other hospitals or medical facilities in Singapore, a doctor or the management has the right to make a temporary exception and allow family members to visit their family member who is on the deathbed.

However, even after a heated argument with the security, he refuses to call management for further advice. The family knew that there is little chance that they will be allowed to have more than 6 pax in the ward but they were sad because the staff on duty did not even try.

The security guard said “No more than 6 for visiting”

A family member responded “we are not here for visiting we are here to say goodbye”

Another family member responded to the security guard “what if it is your father that is in the ward”

The security officer had the cheek to say “Only management can allow more than 6” instead of contacting the management.

The family is disappointed and disgusted with the behavior of the security staff as he did not even bother to try.

The security guard who was pressured called another security guard(who was of no help) instead of dialing a number from the management and try.

The family who shared the information said that:

“Rules are fixed, humans are flexible. If the staff has no compassion he or she should not be even working in or near any healthcare facility.

“We can have over a hundred unrelated people crammed up in public transport like the MRT or several dozens on the bus and we can even have 8 unrelated pax eating in the restaurant at a single table with many others in the same area. but we cannot visit a dying family member.

“We are not angry because we can’t have more than 6 pax in the ward, we are angry because the staff’s bo chap can’t be bothered attitude
