Pork belly is viewed as the heavenly vessel for most pork lover; With all things considered, who can oppose its succulent fat substance that stuff with so much flavor the minute we sink our teeth into it! Having said that, we do realize that unreasonable utilization of this specific meat can prompt medical issues because of its high fat substance.
Be that as it may, in an compilation done by BBC as of late, pork fat has been delegated the eighth most nutritious nourishment on the planet! No, it’s valid!
“In the wake of breaking down in excess of 1,000 crude nourishments, analysts positioned the fixings that give the best adjust of your every day nutritious prerequisites – and they found a couple of amazements.” Needless to state, pork fat is one of the wonderful astonishments as it is more unsaturated and more beneficial than sheep or meat fat. Likewise, it is a decent wellspring of B vitamins and minerals, which are fundamental for our human body.
A reader sent in an appointment schedule by CGH to see a orthopedic specialist and the wait for the subsidised consultation for his swollen leg is a lengthy 5-month wait!
The message was sent out on 22 Feb for a first appointment schedule on 11 July after he has seen a GP at a polyclinic for his leg swell.
Either there is a long waiting list for orthopedic services or there is a lack of orthopedic specialist or both which is more probable.
In fact, the polyclinic has advised the patient to go to A & E services which charge a hefty premium so that he can have immediate access to a orthopedic consultation for his swollen leg!
We know that polyclinic charges are often heavily subsidised and the wait can be very long – but five months!?
As the country prepares for a GST hike in about 3 years’ time and the government has promised more healthcare expenditure in the near future, one wonders if this particular patient has the health or the luxury to wait five months to see a specialist? Will he lose his leg in the process?
What if the patient has a life-threatening illness, will the patient still have to wait a few months for subsidised government healthcare services?
Editor’s note: though the photo is a advertisement for a online apps it resonates with many of us because it’s a true reflection of the sad state of affairs on the ground for many jobless Singaporean PMETs who are being displaced.
When a passenger approached the Passenger Service Centre at Marsiling MRT station, Station Manager Gerad Sequeira noticed that she was barefoot on one foot and was holding a slipper in her right hand.
Sensing that she required some help, he stepped out of the PSC and went up to her. She explained that one of the straps on the slipper had broken, and requested for a rubber band to try and fasten it.
As a rubber band may not work too well, SM Gerad suggested to help the passenger personally by using a stapler to attach the broken-off strap to the slipper. After a few attempts, SM Gerad realised that it would not work, and even if it did, the strap might possibly break off along the passenger’s journey to work. As the nearby shops have not opened and the passenger was in a hurry to report for work, SM Gerad offered his own slippers to the passenger so that she can head to work on time.
“To me, going the extra mile means I have to empathise with my passengers when they are caught in difficult and stressful situations, and go above and beyond the call of duty to assist our passengers in order for them to have a safe and reliable journey.” SM Gerad shared.
Thank you for showing us what it means to be a true #SMRTHero, SM Gerad! 🙂

Upon SCDF’s arrival, the fire had fully engulfed two storeys of the affected unit. Firefighters deployed two water jets as an immediate offensive firefighting tactic to control the blaze from within the building. Two additional water jets were also deployed to protect the adjacent units.
Firefighters faced dark and smoke-logged conditions and had to negotiate narrow stairs leading up to the mezzanine storage platform.
The fire which involved stockpiles of party supplies, such as balloons and inflatables on the upper levels of the unit was extinguished within two hours and damping down* is currently in progress.
11 workers from the unit had self evacuated prior to SCDF arrival. Others were evacuated by Police officers. There were no reported injuries.
*Damping down is a term used by SCDF to describe the application of water to wet burnt surfaces immediately after the fire is put out. This is to prevent any potential rekindle of fire from the hot burnt surfaces.
