Admins pls don’t filter this, I really need some advice here. So my bf broke up with me over text at the end of last year, and only recently did we have a proper talk for closure.
Long story short, it was only now that I really realised how toxic our relationship was; he was manipulating, controlling, and constantly disrespected my boundaries. He made me think what he was doing was normal, and that I was the abnormal one.
Despite my feelings of discomfort, it being my first r/s and him being much more experienced, I chose to ignore the red flags and listened to him, thinking that he knew better. Perhaps it’s stockholm syndrome, but I constantly understood and empathised with him, despite him disrespecting me time and again. Suffice to say, my mental health took a toll; I was constantly doubting myself, and lost myself in the process.
My ex and I are still friends. He doesn’t know that I’ve had this realisation, and thinks that things between us are all good now. I don’t know if he knows how much he has messed me up in the head.
These few days, I constantly get flashbacks about the past – his manipulative words, baseless accusations, and passive-aggressiveness, and reading things about consent, trust, and sexual offences trigger me greatly, and I break down.
I feel very tempted to let him know how much his actions have affected me, however, as I will be working very closely with him the next semester, this gives me second thoughts. What should I do? Pretend nothing happened and maintain an amiable r/s with him or thrash things out with him? ):
So I almost never post my opinion on news or politics as I’m not one to seek out controversial debates on such matters. Yesterday I was linked an article by Anthea Tan in which a fool I’d never heard of before was talking about why the government should stop funding the arts. I responded to him, but due to the fact that my opinion differed from his, he deleted all my comments as well as banned me from his page. The reason that I’m posting this in the first place is because I honestly want to know how someone like this could ever even have been nominated as an MP for our country.
Too bad for Calvin Cheng that the internet and technology is unforgiving and perhaps he has never heard of a screenshot. He claims that I have a right to state my opinion as long as it does not involve personal insults or attacks right after making a personal attack of his own, insulting both my parents and my upbringing, even after I had stopped making personal remarks about him and was asking him legitimate questions which he failed to answer.
Where did this guy even come from and does the Straits Times really have nothing more newsworthy to report than the rambling opinion of this idiot?

“Weekend the business not bad but weekdays quiet.” “Not many people know we are here.” “People here don’t buy second hand goods.” These are the mixed views of the vendors who have taken up stalls at the Sembawang pasar malam, right next to the mrt station. No transition is easy.
The vendors understand that. They are soldiering on, looking for a space to continue while waiting for a longer term solution to be worked out. Each has decided to try it out at this pasar malam because of a very special price the organiser has offered them at $10 per stall per day, just to give the vendors a hand. Usually, such stalls go for 10x more. Pl spread the word and bring the old and new patrons back for the last weekend at Sembawang! #soldieringon#supportsungeivendors#brokenricebowl
Alicia is a 10-year-old girl who frequents Let’s Go Play Outside with her older Sister. Last weekend, I was shocked to hear from her Father that she was diagnosed with Low IQ of 72 and was advised to be transferred to a special school for learning disability. I was shocked because she has always displayed quick-wittedness when bickering and arguing back. She never had problems following instructions and asking questions. There is, however, one particular trait that stood out:
She only spoke Mandarin.
She and her Sister spoke Mandarin proficiently, rarely heard from Singaporean children nowadays. They don’t mix English into their speech, not at all. I was told by their Father this is because he is Chinese educated (he is 60+) and while he spends time teaching them, he could not help them in English or anything taught in English, at all.
So I quickly deduce that maybe, maybe it is a language proficiency issue after all. It’s like if I am given a test in Japanese, I would be dumb, literally. But it is only my Guess. Hence I quickly started Lets Go Learn Together and paid home visits to the children to understand why they are all not doing so well in school.
For Alicia, I realised that my suspicion was right. She struggles with school work because she does not understand the language. It took me sometime to explain a short paragraph consisting four sentences with complex sentence structure. The confusion is common for non-English users. Why is pickpocket, a verb-sounding word, a person? However, because she is strong in Chinese, it is a Breeze to explain to her in Chinese. It’s alot of translation work. And she remembers all that has been taught so quickly – not a sign of Low IQ though I don’t know what is the clinical criteria to label people as such.
With 30 minutes of help each day to do simple reading, I think the girl’s life can be transformed within a year or less.
So now I am appealing to friends and friends of friends who stay in Toa Payoh or nearby, for anyone who can spare some time once week to help this girl. Our facilitators and myself at Let’s Go Play Outside can help her for two days a week. I think a commitment of 4-6 month to start things off will be helpful.
