A bill was passed, Starting from the 1st of August 2017. A tax will be imposed starting from SGD0.80 per room per night. The rate can go up to 20RM for a 5-star hotel, which is about $SGD6.50 (today’s exchange rate from Google).
Smaller establishments with less than 10 rooms are exempted.
I know people are talking about it in social media.
Well, being a foodie together with my business partner n his friend, we decided to try it today. (31/05/2017)
“One Man’s Food Is Another Man’s Poison”,
Followings are our unbiased view.
1. Environment was bright, clean, with some piping Hindustani music.
2. They don’t come to your table n take orders. You have to queue at cashier n place your orders.
3. Before ordering, I did asked the Chef, whether One Bamboo Biryani is sufficient for 2 people n he replied ‘NO’, because you will have bigger slice of lamb with less rice.
4. So we ordered, Two Lamb and One Chicken Bamboo Biryani @ 1.56 PM.
(note: non of them, told us that we have to wait for at least 45 mins, friends do take note about it)
5. We were severed at 2.45 PM with One Lamb and One Chicken Bamboo Biryani n the waiter left.
We thought, he’s going to get another Lamb Bamboo Biryani n waited for some 5-10 mins. No sign of him.
6. It’s only after, I called asked about it, then the staff, replied that I have to wait for another 5-10 mins.
I told him, we ordered for 3 n he should serve us 3 together, instead why serve 2 and do you expect one person to wait, n see us eating. it doesn’t make any sense.
If the preparation is done, as per order 2 lambs n 1 chicken, why they left out one lamb.
7. Now, coming to the Bamboo Biryani.
If you’re a Die-Hard Biryani foodie, you can identify n tell whether it’s value for money.
a) Rice was colourful but tasteless, to us it was blunt. Nothing special in it.
b) Lamb Bamboo Biryani, a moderate Lamb piece, tender but again it’s tasteless, I don’t taste any spices induced into it. I would rather simply steam or boiled a lamb piece n eat it.
c) Chicken Bamboo Biryani, expected that they will cook the chicken together with the rice, instead i was served with fried chicken covered with biryani rice and all heated inside the Bamboo.
While biting it, I can feel it’s still crispy.
If i knew this earlier, I would rather go to 4FINGERS crispy chicken.
8. Showmanship was nice, with tapping the bamboo n poking into it.
9. Oops, before I forget, it’s S$24/- per plate of Bamboo Biryani n you get only One complimentary drink per plate.
I’m an NUS student and I drive part-time for Uber. I genuinely love driving. Ever since I began a few months ago, I’ve gotten to know roads that I never thought existed. But more than that, what I love most about the job is that I get to meet people and have conversations with them.
Of course, with any job, there’s that shitty part. Sometimes, you meet rude people who clearly deserve to be kicked out of your car and left abandoned on a busy expressway. But over time, you learn to deal with it and you stop giving a f*ck what they think.
And, then there are those rare occasions when you pick up a passenger who’s clearly had a rough day. You want to make them smile but you don’t quite know how or what to say.
So, tonight, I picked up this guy who was clearly distraught and emotional. I looked at him in the mirror and I saw he was crying. I asked him what happened and he confided in me that eight years of his life was over in one night.
The man he had been with for the last eight years succumbed to family pressures and was going to marry a woman his family had arranged for him.
I felt really sad for him. I think sometimes, I take many things in my life for granted. I’m straight. I’m Chinese. I’m engaged to a great girl (with the exception of our families, no one else knows we’re engaged). I’m doing shit in school but I’ve got a good handle over my financial status in life. All things considered, I’ve got a shitload of good stuff going with my life.
But this dude that I picked up tonight… What words of comfort can one offer him?
Netizens reported a dangerous act by one of the contractors who appears to be fixing the light signboard for Singapore Pools outlet located at Ang Mo Kio Ave 10, Singapore Pools.
The photo was taken a few weeks ago. According to safety rule. When one person is on the ladder the other must hold it. But this contractor even more garang. No one hold plus stack with boxes to achieve height.
Thomas Chua Poh Heng, who posted on facebook insensitive comments about a traffic police and was later arrested for shoplifting, Netizien claims that he may have even threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend’s separated husband.
He was staying with his then-girlfriend who was already separated from her husband around 2 and a half years ago. He got into quarrel with him and repeatedly sent emails of threats that accused him of taking drugs or saying that he will hire a hit man to bump him off. Chua had threatened the man for nearly a year.
On top of that, Chua had multiple counts of reckless driving and speeding.
With some many offencesĀ stacked on him, its seem like the not a decent guy
The school might have strict rules on control of phone usage in classes. But as a parent. I can understand why they might have sued the school.
Imagine, your son has a phone(don’t care what brand La) and the phone is given to the child so that you can contact the child anytime. But, the school confiscates it and did not bother to reply to the parents this is wrong.
Number 1. What kind of message is the school is trying to bring across to the parents when something like this is done? Ā Is the school trying to set an example to the students that are out so many teaching staff in the school, no one can bother to follow up and advise the parents on the outcomes?
I believe this is either the job of the form teacher, the teacher that confiscate the phone or the discipline master. Or worse case principal when none of them replies.
Is like the question, “how many monkeys do you need to change the light bulb” answer is zero because monkeys don’t know how to change the lightbulb. But their teachers, right? not monkeys? Ā Can reply right?
Number 2. So during this 3 months of confiscating the phone. Am I suppose to buy another phone for the boy so can call him? This makes no sense. The school should properly think of another way to discipline the boy like giving him detentionĀ or something more useful like helping out the school.
Apple made an announcement on it latest product to fight against Amazon echo has made the internet laughing. After netizens said that the latest device looks like a roll of toilet paper.
Jokes aside, this device is retailed at US349 before taxes(probably about SGD$500+ after tax). What this device can do is to control smart devices at home. The device uses Siri (applesĀ smart assistant) to perform the task.
Similar to Amazon Echo, which allows users to play songs from voice control. More information about the product can be found here.
I did a check-in on booking.com reservation on 27/5 (Sat) at around 12-1pm at Grand Copthorne Waterfront (5 Stars) hotel. I approach the check-in with customer service Ms Olivia Kim. I was told to pay $300 for the deposit. I clearly remember I had counted and paid a $300 of 6 $50 notes in front of the counter with CCTV around. I was asked to bring back the sealed envelope for the refund (Of course at the moment I trust the 5 Stars Hotel professional service.)
Ā
During checkout on 28/5(Sun), I was asked and to check on the balance bill. To my surprise, I need to pay additional of $50+ on top of my $300 cash deposit. She then tore the seal envelope confidently and insisted that I only paid $100 of my deposit. She firmly said that I need to produce additional receipt that I paid the extra $200. She was the lady that took my $300 upon check in.
She firmly said that she only received $100 upon check in against my reply towards her. I was so shocked and angry but I keep my cool down and proceed on my next urgency of my iternanry to run.
I ask the duty manager in charge to investigate and demand a reply on the day itself.
On the day, the duty manager followed up a phone call and claimed and confirmed that she took the deposit of $300 after viewing the CCTV. The manager had given a reason that she was newcomer and want to close the case with a transfer but I refused and the trust.
In short, I was charged and cheated with hotel room of an additional of $200. Additionally the total bill should be less than $160 but I had paid and upfront of $300 and the outstanding bill of about $50+
I believe this isn’t the first incident that happened. The way how 5 stars hotel and management handled made me puzzled and worried.
I would like to let everyone know that my association with the Nanyang zone 2 Residential Committee (“RC”), community herb garden at Jurong West St 91, Blk 938 had ceased on 31st May 2017, with much regret.
People have asked me why I am “closing down” the Blk 938 herb garden; a community project that I had devoted much of my time and energy, cultivating, sharing and exchanging knowledge on herbs with my fellow Singaporeans for the past 14 years. It was indeed a tough and difficult decision to leave all my herbs behind, knowing that the years of hard work of all my volunteers would likely be demolished.
I would like to take this opportunity to let my volunteers understand the circumstances behind my decision, and also abolish the notion that I have been “bullied” by the RC chairman, Mr Sam Ng or other committee members. Indeed, there were some misunderstanding and petty arguments between us in the last few years, and it became increasingly difficult (administratively) to operate the herb garden thereafter. However, being the chairman, he has the full discretion to decide how community projects should be run, which I should have dutifully complied.
Ultimately, my withdrawal from the herb garden was due to irreconcilable differences with the RC, in terms of how the herb garden should be run, which contravened with my personal values and beliefs.
The RC felt that the Blk 938 herb garden had expanded beyond the original aim and remit of a community garden and should be scaled down accordingly.
Over the last 14 years, the herb garden became increasingly popular, with many visitors and volunteers coming from all parts of Singapore, seeking/learning about the usage of herbs. The small herb garden, in the past decade had slowly evolved into a “pay-it-forward” model that allowed Singaporeans from all walks of life to obtain herbs either free of charge or at a token sum, with the surpluses channeling back to the herb garden so as to help more people.
The small garden became a victim of its own success, as the RC felt that the garden had expanded beyond its original remit, citing potential legal implications of unlicensed herb usage as its main concern; the RC is worried they would be liable for any complaint from the public (based on imaginary and unfounded fears). For the first time in my 70+ years, I have been told that too much charitable work is actually bad !!! š„
As a result, the RC imposed a set of restrictions/conditions with the intention to scale down the activity of the herb garden; some of which I could not agree to. Among the long list of conditions imposed, here are the few standout ones:
1) Residents outside Nanyang are not allowed to volunteer at the herb garden.
2) Part of the existing herb garden will be converted for other type of usage (RC to determine the exact size)
and the list goes on …….
With these conditions, I have no choice but to leave the Nanyang zone 2 RC and seek a new piece of land to restart a new garden that is truly inclusive and embodies the selfless kampung spirit of the pioneer generation of Singapore. Starting a new garden is back-breaking and involved a lot of hard work, I am already 73 year old… it is unlikely that I have another 14 years….. however, I will persevere and persist …because I want to show the younger generations what it means to be brave and selfless; always putting the society before oneself !!
The future of Singapore is bleak if our younger generation of leaders all lack the courage to take on risks or responsibilities for the greater good of our society. What will Singapore become if our leaders’ decision making is guided by risk-aversion or self-preservation as their main priority?
During the meeting, the RC said that they would be happy to let the herb garden continue in its current form if someone in a high position with authority is willing to step forward to take responsibility.
Do you guys know of any MP or Minister who would be wise and brave enough to bear the responsibility of this garden so that we can continue to operate in its current form ?
Well I guess, its all too late by now…
Lets move on to a bigger and better herb garden at Kranji !
A boys phone was confiscated by his teachers after using his iPhone 7 during class. The school’s policy is there any students caught using phones in the class have the device confiscated for 3 months.
Location: ACS @ Barker Road
The teacher took the phone from the boy and only return the boy the sim card. A letter was even issued to the boy’s parents to notify the confiscation of the iPhone.
The parentsĀ demanded the school to return. They told the school that legal action will be done if the phone is not returned. The school did not reply to the parents.
Finally, forcing the parents to take the case to court.
