HALF NAKED CHIOBU SHOCKED AFTER MALE STAFF PUT HEAD INTO CHANGING ROOM

I have never once doubted the security of a changing room. However, I have come to realise that even in one of the safest countries in the world, our safety can be easily compromised.

On 2nd June, at about 8.20pm, I walked into a female apparel store at Liang Court. I found some clothes to try on and headed into the “For Ladies Only” changing room.

The curtains were thick and my area was secured as the curtains were fully drawn. I then proceeded to try on a few dresses. While I was changing, I heard a female voice asking me if everything was alright. I replied her that I was still trying on the clothes.

The last piece I tried on was a top. While I was trying on the top and clad only in my underwear, I suddenly heard the curtains being drawn back and saw a male staff putting his head into the changing room and staring right at me. I felt furious and shocked. I tried to cover myself up, and then shouted at him. That was when he closed the curtains.

I hastily changed back into my own clothes and came out of the changing room. I looked around and tried to look for a staff. I asked the first staff I saw if I could speak to their manager. She said their manager was out of the shop and asked why I was looking for the manager.

Apparently, no one realised that the male staff had opened my curtain! I was appalled while telling the two staffs. They questioned the male staff and he claimed that he said “Excuse me”, thought that there was no one and thus opened the curtains.

The manager appeared at that moment and heard both our recounts. She then stared at me, and after a really long pause said that she would relay this to her higher management. And that was all. I stood there appalled by her response. She did not once ask me if I was alright, nor did she ask me if she could assist in anything. Basically, she did not do anything at all to try to understand how I was feeling or rectify the situation!

She only asked me to speak to her management on the phone after the police was called in. I told her that I would speak to them when the police arrived. Subsequently, the police and the store’s HQ staff arrived, but no one from HQ acknowledged the incident, nor did they try to apologize or say that they would look into this matter.

To summarise,

1) I did not hear anyone said excuse me.

2) Why is a male staff in a “For Ladies Only” changing room? (This store does not even sell male apparel.)

3) According to the police, the male staff was deployed to work in the changing room area as they were understaffed that day.

4) If so, then why do they have a “For Ladies Only” sign?

5) And if so, why did he open my curtain and not ask a female staff to do so?

6) Why did the management not acknowledge the incident and kept mum?

7) Lastly, there was not a single CCTV in the changing area.

Growing up, I have associated changing rooms in Singapore to be “safe”. This is especially so when males are not allowed to enter the area and there are signs stating so.

I did not write this to slander the company or to malign anyone. What compelled me to share this is the belief that stores (especially so when you are a group with several stores) should not overlook security and should make it a priority to create a safe environment for their customers. If they do not have doors, they should have hooks to hook the curtains at the very least. And no matter how busy the store is, should a male staff be deployed in a for ladies only changing area?

MY DAD CALLS ME A “RETARDED KID” IN FRONT OF RELATIVES DURING CNY EVEN THOUGH I A STAT BOARD SCHOLAR!!

Photo for illustration

Hi I think there’s not many ways to put this across nicely but long story short, I hate my father. Bear in mind I’m not one of those spoilt puny kids seeking attention or just because he dosent buy me stuffs.

I’m the oldest sibling amongst the 3 sons my mom has. Ever since I was a kid I had to meet different academic standards in order to not get caned. (yes you heard that right) I remember getting straight As for my subjects in primary school and got a B for Chinese. Hell be upon be that night. Meanwhile my siblings only had to pass or do decent to get play stations and new games that sort of stuffs.

Whenever he talks to me it’s as if I owe him smth. Never took a penny from him since I entered the army. Ran a small online shop with a good friend which turned out pretty good and a foreign small company bought us over few years back. (my family had no idea, they assumed I did part time jobs to get income)

He’s always yelling at me for ridiculous reasons (buying takeaways instead of eating out, like what even) exceeding my phone bills even though I pay for our entire family’s phone bill. (what evennnn). He talks to me as if I’m his employee and the drastic difference in treatment between me and my family is disgusting. Thankfully my brothers are quite close and even feels bad for me and speaks up for me sometimes only for me to get accused of teaching my siblings the wrong things(wt*)

Never been the loud kid, did well in school, buys parents gifts and family meals. He’s never been there during my childhood, I struggle to get a memory of me and my dad actually having fun. He’s basically my father on paper (if that makes sense). Once I had a wrist/ankle fracture after falling in the bathroom, he just ask me to sleep it off. Thankfully my brothers rushed me to the hospital after my pinky starting turning blue against his advice. (almost lost my fingers). And he puts me down during cny in front of relatives because apparently I’m the retarded kid (stat board scholar btw, humble brag)

What should I do? Asian values tells me to remain filial and all that crap but I’ve really had enough built up all these years. Im decently financially stable. Should I move out and get an apartment somewhere else? All these got so much worse when he retired and sold his business few months back. He’s basically nagging and ranting at me everyday and my mental health is honestly taking a toll.

I AM GRADUATING THIS YEAR YET NONE OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS ARE COMING FOR MY GRADUATION CEREMONY!

International student graduating this year here. I will be having my commencement in July, booked seats, bought my academic dress, and here I am crying, afraid that none of my family member will be attending my graduation ceremony.

To me, commencement is an important milestone in my life and I have been looking to celebrate it with my family. I have been thinking that this could be a chance for my family to finally visit Singapore after me studying here for a decade.

However, I just realized my parents seem not to think the same. Clearly, my mom is not interested in attending it, my dad has not confirmed yet, and when I mentioned if my sister and brother-in-law could come, my mom just immediately said they would be too busy to come.

Now I am having doubts if I am expecting too much from my parents. When I told them that I got a job offer, I was expecting at least a congratulation, but instead, my mom simply told me to continue applying other places and compare the packages. Don’t I deserve just a simple sentence saying that I have done well?

I have been through a lot of hardship alone throughout my time in Singapore, crying many nights because of study stress, financial stress, and when all these will finally be over, I have finally managed to graduate with distinction,

I was just hoping that my family will be here with me to celebrate, the Skype call I just had with my parents was like a slap in my face. I am jealous of all my friends who will have their whole family and extended family coming over.

Now my tears keep rolling down and I don’t know who to talk to. I am now reminded of the time when I received lower-than-expected A-level results, my mom (who is very result-oriented) immediately showed displeasure and nobody spoke a single word during dinner on that day.

After that, I remembered I cried a lot in my room, not because of the results, but because of the way I saw my parents reacted to me on those results. I realised that after al these years, I have unknowingly drifted far away from my family. When I start working, I will have even less time for them. I love my family so so much, but more and more I feel disappointed and distant from them. Sorry for the long rant.

BEWARE! NETIZEN CLAIMS SERANGOON CAR WORKSHOP ‘DAY LIGHT ROBBERY’

Today I’m going to share my worst experience with one of the famous auto repair shops in Singapore. On
27th May 2017, I took my Ford Sedan to Werkz’s Serangoon workshop for an engine problem.
They received my car and asked me about the problem. I explained my problem to a mechanic, and he
started inspecting the engine. After 30 minutes of inspection, the mechanic came to me and told that
the head gasket needs to be replaced.
They gave me a 2-day schedule with a 500 SGD estimate and told me that they would call me if any other
parts need replacement. I agreed and left the car in their garage. I called them after two days (30th May),
and they said that my car is ready.
When I looked at the memo before paying, I got surprised. They’ve changed my coolant tank and refilled
new coolant, done a transmission flush and changed the transmission fluid. They did all those additional
things without informing me, but they told that they‘d call me if any other repair/replacement needs.
Instead of their 500 SGD estimate, the total cost is now 820 SGD which is unbelievable.
I asked them why they did those extra things without calling me. And I got shocked by their answer. The
mechanic said that he called me, but my phone was switched off (it was a pure lie). My phone wasn’t
switched off for a second, and I’ve missed call alert on so I never miss any call.
On the other hand, why didn’t they wait if they couldn’t reach me by phone? I asked them that, and they
said they’re on a tight schedule so they couldn’t wait. I couldn’t believe them, so I told them to give me
the old parts back. The mechanic said that they left those parts in the junkyard and now it’s not possible
to find them.
They have done things without my permission, and now they’re refusing to give my old parts back.
Actually they did the whole thing very cleverly and intentionally- they’ve done those replacements
without calling me so I can’t say them “NO,” then they threw the old parts in the junkyard so I can’t
investigate to know if those parts were really damaged.
I called the workshop’s manager, explained everything to him, and he said it’s not their fault and I must
pay because the bill is already made. How could it be my fault? They don’t have any right to replace
things from my car without my permission. Mistakes happen, but you can’t put the blame on your
customer.
Even they didn’t tell me sorry for that, and the manager clearly said me – “We can’t release your car until
you pay the whole bill and you’ll be charged parking fee if you make delay.” It was an open threat, and
I’ve to do nothing. I was forced to pay those extra dollars to get my car back. I don’t know if I’m the only
customer abused by them, but it’s really unbelievable in a country like Singapore.
