I learned that my colleague was molested during our office CNY dinner.
Here’s the account I got from my colleagues (I was, unfortunately, not at dinner).
This year’s office lohei was at Mouth Restaurant on Cross Street. Dinner was winding down, and two of my female colleagues, T and R walked out to use the building’s restroom at about 9.30 PM. The restroom is approximately 20 m away from the restaurant’s main entrance, which faces the main road. As they were coming out of the restroom and walking back to the restaurant, the corridor was blocked by two men. They announced that they were from Portugal after trying to guess T and R’s country of origin, and blocked T and R’s way back to the restaurant. One of the 2 men then proceeded to harass T her and asked her to take her shirt off and show him her boobs. T said ‘NO’ repeatedly, and instead of backing off, the man moved towards her, picked her up off the floor and molested her. #nomeansno
I would never use the term ‘molest’ lightly, but the Oxford English dictionary defines it as ‘assault or abuse [of] (a person, especially a woman or child) sexually” and to “pester or harass (someone) in an aggressive or persistent manner. Touching another person inappropriately and without consent falls squarely within these definitions.
Colleague T was shocked, afraid, and kept saying “No!”, and had colleague R not grabbed onto her hand and screamed, the molester would not have put her down.
Both women were really upset, and hurried back into the restaurant. Our colleagues confronted the 2 men, and tried to block them from leaving, and a little tussle ensued. The men’s colleagues then came out of the restaurant and pulled everyone apart, but the molester charged forward and headbutted one of my male colleagues.
When my colleagues confronted the man’s colleagues about what happened, they brushed it off with a “Oh, we thought they were friends.”
Sure, when you see a woman struggling when being manhandled by a guy, you automatically think that they are friends, and that this is normal behavior among friends.
It’s not.
To be fair, the molester’s colleagues did apologise, but other than give us the molester’s name, “Bruno” and that he was visiting from Portugal, they refused to give us their company name or any other contact information. They even told “Bruno” to leave immediately.
My colleagues approached the restaurant for the contact of the company, they said that they would only disclose the company’s name to the police.
So my colleague T filed a police report the next day. She had to endure an unpleasant interview by the police officer, who prefixed the interview by saying, “Are you sure you want to do this? If this goes to court, you’ll need to testify….” and then concluding with, “Are you sure they weren’t just trying to be friendly? You know, ang moh culture is different from ours…”
Seriously? This is the response from the police officer?
SHAME ON YOU!
When this was told to me, I was furious. Furious at the entitled “Bruno” (and friend who egged him on) for his reprehensible behavior; furious at “Bruno’s” colleagues for dismissing it and shrugging it off; and furious at the restaurant for not doing more to protect the wellbeing of its customers.
But I’m most disappointed by the fact that the police officer who took my colleague’s statement, didn’t take her complaint seriously. I worry that they will do nothing.
I cannot, in good conscience, let “Bruno” and his accomplices get away with this, nor can I condone our police force’s less than appropriate response to the situation.
Please repost this, and let people know that such behavior is repulsive, and that we will not tolerate this in our society.
A 53 year old man Peh Boon Keng got sentenced 7 months jail today after appearing in court and charged guilty for his actions. The solution he used to throw as his son was hydrochloric acid. The son at only 20 years old got terrible burns all over his face.

The victim was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and was discharged 2 days later. He has recovered from his injuries.
Hi. That was me in the video(wow I look fat). It doesn’t show her being pushed by the man or the very responsive security Guards doing their best to deescalate the situation.
We subdued him so he couldn’t leave without speaking to the police. I suspect he has some mental issues right now, so please give him some sympathy. That doesn’t excuse his physical and verbal abuse though.
The police were called, he was charged and hopefully he won’t do this again. It was my first true experience with racism towards me in Singapore. I have lived here almost five years and love it very much and am proud to call it home.
Things like this are rare in Singapore. Consider yourselves very lucky.

Because Spirit Airlines wrongfully ejected me from the plane after offering a tissue to a quietly sobbing young lady, who had been first accused of being drunk, then after trying to persuade her to leave on her own by threatening police intervention if she were to somehow get sick or become disruptive during the flight!
After assuring all THREE flight attendants that although she & her companion had been finishing a beer before boarding, but was not drunk & would be fine, they left her alone for a few minutes, then came back and said her bosom was too exposed!
Granted she was well endowed and wearing a lowcut top, but she was covered. They claimed they had had complaints.
(There were no nuns of Muslims on board and no one could see her in the center seat unless they tried anyway)
She tried to pull her top up further to cover more, each time another flight attendant came with the same issue, telling her in loud and rude tones that she’ll have leave the plane if she can’t get them covered.
The gate agent came on board and very politely and quietly spoke with her, she asked for a blanket, the airlines no longer provide-so she took out a big coat put it on and completely covered up to the neck!
Ok can we back away from the gate yet?
Minutes go by, me & my seat mate converse about their rudeness and never having seen anyone have such a cleavage issue!
The woman said
“That poor girl is so upset she’s crying”
I couldn’t hear her, I peeked between the seat and there she was sobbing into her hands.
I reached into my bag got a pack of tissues, turned to give it to her and said it’s going to be ok just breath

To which he huffed off, I figured that was the end of it-
What I didn’t know was they had a well known a beloved co worker trying to deadhead to FLL they fly stand by it was a full flight
What they may not have counted on when they formed a little huddle before the coupe
Is that my friend was sitting next to this young lady and was witness to it all including the off duty crew member being hugged by a flight attendant and remarking to him that this is the last flight to FLL
When I told my side to the gate agent she was going to put me back on the plane-
However AFTER the crew member the other 2 seats went to immigrants who were traveling “together” (he told me all about after)
Yeah ok-well I need to get to FLL still-I was removed for no good reason-I was not refusing to comply there was no safety violations ect.
Sure they will get me to FLL in 24 hours I demanded they put me on another airline talk to a supervisor etc.
they offered me 800 # that you cannot speak to a live person!
So……………I slept (I use the term loosely) in the airport-
And here I am ready for more adventures………..
