Ex Nus student regrets dumping “normal looking bf” who became rich/successful in life

I graduated from the Engineering Faculty 15 years ago with first-class honours.

The gender ratio then and probably now as well were very favourable to an even average-looking girl like I was. Being in a heavily male-dominated faculty, women like myself attracted more than their fair share of attention. In rare cases, they verged on the borderline of being sexual harassment. I explained away those attention as being h**ny guys who just exited NS as the OP says, “can’t wait to get into my pants”.

I dated much during my Uni life and accepted many requests to ask me out. However, I never actually committed partly to concentrate on my studies, partly reveling in the attention I was getting for the first time in my life. Why settle and lose all the attention when you get so much “free stuff” whether it is free meals from rich buff guys or homework help from skinny nerds? When they talk to me, most seem intoxicated and stutter as if they see a women of their dreams for the first time. It was really flattering to wrap men around my fingers just by looking at me.

My first relationship was with a rather nice guy in my final year but I dumped him after I graduated as I thought I could do better in the workplace. I entered into 3 more relationships but none were serious as I treated each as a stepping-stone.

I’m nearing my late thirties and suddenly the male attention has changed. Most men no longer give more than a second-look, things don’t seem so easy anymore. Subtle things like male strangers waiting to hold doors open or going the extra mile for me suddenly becomes less frequent.

I recently bumped into my first ex and he is happily married now with his wife of 6 years with 2 kids. The other guys I dumped are still single but very successful in the business world. I don’t see the same interest in their eyes for me anymore. They go for women the same age as I was when I dated them.

My advice for Uni girls? The previous OP is spouting rubbish. Unless you plan to be a spinster, don’t believe the Hollywood movies and Korean dramas that women must have it all, date perfect men, get all or nothing. No man is perfect and Uni is actually your best place to meet your Mr Right. No where in the working world will you meet so many potentially-eligible men except in Uni. Don’t squander the opportunity I had. I was a younger woman like you and I took those advantages for granted and I expected more. A woman’s attraction window is only so limited, once you lose it you will never get it back. You have to settle with “low-quality” men if still you want to settle at all once you are my age.
