ANOTHER FARE EVADER “I DON’T WANT TO PAY, CALL THE POLICE! I GOT MONEY!” (VIDEO)

Good Day,

Disclaimer: Some parts of the video were censored to protect the identity of my father.

I am writing in on behalf of my dad, 62, whom is the Taxi Driver. Sharing in the video, on his experience with an erroneous and arrogant passenger who tried to evade the Taxi fare and stirred a series of trouble.

On 27th April 2017, past midnight, my dad fetched this passenger home from Golden Mile Complex to 27 Jalan Chermat. During the trip, everything went smoothly till the end of the trip, when the passenger refused to pay up for the fare, which was approximately $15.00.

He then tapped my dad’s hands with his hands and took that as a ‘payment’. My dad refused him to get off the car as he hadn’t paid up. The passenger shouted “I don’t want to pay, CALL THE POLICE!”. The passenger went berserk and created a ruckus in the car, provoking my dad to call the police, and started peeling the ID tag off the windshield, which he claims to use it for his ‘evident’. As matters escalated and got out of hand, my dad decided to get out of the car and approached two by-passers for assistance.

Meanwhile, the police were informed and the passenger got off the cab and continued his ruckus, this time round tried to check with my dad with his body against my dad’s, somehow trying to initiate some form of retaliation but apparently failed. The bystanders told the passenger to return the ID Tag and pay up and my dad added on saying that he can forget about pursuing the matter as soon as he pays up and return the tag. He refused. Continuing to exclaim how proud he is as an ex-convict, how rich and how capable, and how he owns a multi-million property showing how he’s above the law.

The bystanders revealed to my dad that the passenger owns a stall nearby, along Lorong Lew Lian.

Soon after, 2 policemen arrived and managed to persuade the passenger courteously to pay up or he will be charged. Chickened out, he returned the ID tag and ended up paying with NETS despite having the cash on hand. Never mind, he purposefully keyed in the wrong PIN repeatedly and blame it on the card-reader. He then took out another card and proceeded with the payment, this time round, successfully on the first attempt. In the end, the payment went through and he smirked and told my dad, whilst in front of the police officers, saying he did that perpetually so to waste my dad’s precious working time.

The police officers then told my dad not to provoke him sternly. Without an official report or documentation, my dad was asked to leave- which was my dad’s intention. My dad was professional all the time and did not agitate the passenger at all. My dad was confused by the police officers’ attitude towards the matter, as if it was my dad’s fault to begin with, or was too intimidated by the passenger’s stature.

When I first heard the story, I am very thankful and grateful, from the bottom of my heart, to the two bystanders who stood up for my dad’s unfortunate encounter. Also, I am disappointed with the policemen’s judgment as there is an increasing trend of fare evasion and abusive passengers. Usually the evaders will just alight and run scot-free but this time round the passenger took it to the next. I came across similar incidents on the news and always prayed that these events shall never ever happen to my dad.

There is little system governing Taxi fare evaders and people are taking advantage of it. Making a report and claim requires an arduous, grueling and tedious process for the Taxi Drivers. Such as trips to police station and also multiple trips to respective claim centers which, at the end of the day, MAY and ONLY pays out the original fare – which accounts to more time and money, wasted. Reporting to the police was never Taxi Driver’s first choice as it brings more trouble, so the usual way of handling is to just blame it on their luck. Abusive passengers, for this case, are why Taxi drivers break their silence.

I am here writing in, to advocate and urge passengers not to abuse the Taxi drivers. Fare evasion is as good as theft. Taxi Drivers are also of someone else’s family member and could be the sole breadwinner. Respect is mutual, and what goes around comes around.

Thank you for your time.

p.s- my dad wants to keep his identity undisclosed as the focus of this incident should goes to the deserving party a.k.a the abusive and errant passenger. Thank you for the due respect.

Best Regards,
Mr Lim

WOMAN J WALK NEARLY HIT BY VAN. WANT CLAIM LIABILITY FROM THE DRIVER!!! (VIDEO)

Today, at 6.29pm at Balestier Road, a crazy woman parked her car (SJF6915X) at the bus stop and ran across 3 busy lanes out of the blue (despite the fact that there’s an overhead bridge + metal barricade means she can’t possibly reach the other side of the road). I nearly banged into her but luckily I stopped in time. She wasn’t so lucky when she reached the first lane and a van knocked onto her. And crazy woman held up the traffic and insisted that the van stop at a side to entertain her. Errrrr..

1) u aren’t suppose to park your car at the bus stop
2) U aren’t suppose to jaywalk. There is an overhead bridge, woman.
3) u expect that the van driver to see u?! His van is taller than u, of cuz cannot see u except from a distance! And kick a fuss when he didn’t and knocked onto u?!

I’m posting this video because in case the woman claims liability from the poor driver and causes him to lose his job, there’s evidence that she’s really the one at fault. I have no sympathy towards her at all. And I don’t see any sense in her crossing these busy roads whereby it wouldn’t lead to anywhere.

FAULTY DBS DEPOSIT MACHINE “EAT” DEPOSIT AT WOODLANDS CIVC CENTER. NETIZEN CLAIMS DBS NOT EFFICIENT ENOUGH

<Reader Contribution by Randy>

I visited DBS Woodlands Civic Branch to deposit my coins, I had counted last night at home with my family members as witnesses the total $1 coin = $199. After deposited the coins, the figure come out to be $126.
After the transaction I took the phone beside the machine and called the bank, I told CS Officer Ms Ellen about what had happened, there was a shortage of $73, I need help. She said she will check with the relevant department and revert to me within 3 working days = Wednesday.

Fine, I waited. Wednesday (26/Apr), no call from DBS. I called the hotline again, this time was attended by Ms Halima, repeated the whole incident playback, same things, she said she will check and this time, need 3 to 5 working days, from the day i deposited then 5 working days will be Friday (today 28/Apr).

Fine, i waited till now almost 430pm, I decided I need to call DBS hotline, I need update of the status of the missing $70+. These are hard earned money how can i just let them take away without any reason.

This time, CS Ms Haryati picked the call, again, repeated the playback and asked her how is the status? I am sure all conversation or action are recorded into their system. She told me she need to check with Ms Halima as she had took action. I was like ??? Already the 5th working days, there is still no update.

Ms Halima returned my call finally and told me she received no reply from their claim department. So coin deposited is handled by “Claim department”. Meaning there is no answer to my missing $70+ coins.

Why DBS cannot simply do a quick check and restore the missing money? Shouldn’t bank services be more efficient than other service industry?

Can anyone help to advice?

“After my dad collapsed, he was resuscitated and admitted to the ICU of Toho Medical University Omori Hospital on 19 April 2017. Since then, he has been placed on mechanical support and has remained unconscious throughout.

We were told that his heart was beating irregularly and stopped for an extended period of time, causing his brain to suffer permanent damage. According to the Japanese doctors, it is impossible to determine how long my dad will remain comatose. It could be a week, a year, or forever.

His medical bills are rising exponentially. The first night alone costs S$40,000, and every subsequent night in the ICU costs approximately S$10,000. We are now 1 week into his hospitalization and owe the hospital approximately S$120,000 (and counting).

Unlike most people, my dad does not have any life insurance. His travel insurers, MSIG, have informed us that we are unlikely to have a successful claim as his collapse was attributable to a pre-existing heart condition. As such, they were also not able to provide a letter of guarantee for payment to the hospital. In the absence of such letter, we have been notified to make upfront payment in cash for the entire hospital bill. Specifically, 10% of the bill on the day we leave the hospital, and the remaining 90% within the following week.

To put it plainly, we have ZERO financial help from our insurers – not for his hospitalisation, nor any medical evacuation plans that we hope to execute.

While my father’s life hangs on the line on foreign soil, we have no idea if and when we will be able to bring him home. His medical team’s current opinion is that he is unlikely to ever recover from this, and even in the unlikely event that he does, his QOL will be severely diminished. In short, he could be alive and yet not living.

Our hope is to bring him back to Singapore, where we can receive subsidized healthcare and financial aid, not to mention emotional support from our loved ones. However, our only viable option is to arrange for a medical evacuation, which will cost us another approximately SGD$120,000 (based on quotations obtained) that we are unprepared for but have to shoulder.”
