Caught my husband and my female “best friend” together in our guest room during our own housewarming party. Devastated.

I don’t even know why I’m typing this at 4 AM from a hotel room near Bugis, but I feel so numb I just need to get it out.

Last night, my husband (33M) and I (31F) threw a big housewarming party at our new EC. We invited about 15 close friends. Among them was “Sarah” (31F), my best friend since secondary school. She was my maid of honor two years ago. I trusted her with my life.

Throughout the night, the party was great. Alcohol was flowing, people were playing board games in the living room. Around 11:30 PM, I noticed my husband wasn’t around to replenish the ice. I also hadn’t seen Sarah for about 20 minutes.

I thought maybe Sarah was drunk and resting in the guest room, and maybe my husband went to get extra chairs from the storeroom.

I walked down the corridor towards the guest room. The door was push-closed, but not locked. Light was off, but I heard muffled giggling and strange rustling sounds.

My heart immediately sank into my stomach.

I pushed the door open and turned on the light.

There they were. My husband of two years, with his pants half down, and my best friend of 15 years, sitting on his lap on the guest bed.

When the light switched on, Sarah shrieked and pulled her dress down. My husband froze, his eyes wide open with terror.

I couldn’t even scream. I literally lost my voice. The shock was so physical my legs felt like jelly.

My husband stumbled up, trying to pull his pants up, stammering: “Babe! It’s not what it looks like! We were just… she was drunk and tripped, I was holding her!”

Hold her with your pants down?!

Sarah couldn’t even look me in the eye. She grabbed her handbag, pushed past me, and literally RAN out of the house, leaving all our mutual friends in the living room completely confused.

Our friends saw Sarah sprinting out crying, then saw my husband walking out adjusting his belt, and then saw me walking out pale as a ghost. The entire party went dead silent. Everyone packed their things and left within 10 minutes out of sheer awkwardness.

Once everyone left, my husband burst into tears, kneeling on the living room floor, begging me not to leave, claiming “It was a moment of weakness, nothing actually happened, we just kissed!”

I packed a duffel bag, grabbed my passport and documents, and checked into a hotel immediately.

15 years of friendship destroyed in one second. 2 years of marriage down the drain. I am sitting in this hotel room staring at the ceiling. I haven’t slept a single minute. How do people survive this level of double betrayal? Where do I even begin with the divorce proceedings in Singapore?
