The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) announced the seizure of approximately 2.682kg of heroin on April 17, 2024, according to a recent press release. The operation also led to the arrest of a 45-year-old Singaporean man on suspicion of drug trafficking.
In addition to the heroin, the CNB seized 20g of “Ecstasy,” 10g of “Ice,” 10g of cannabis, and two Erimin-5, or Nimetazepam, tablets. The total estimated street value of the seized drugs is around S$286,000. The CNB further stated that the quantity of drugs seized could sustain the addiction of about 1,280 abusers for a week.
Arrest and Seizure Details
CNB officers apprehended the suspect in the vicinity of MacPherson Lane. The man was found to be carrying a black pouch containing approximately 239g of heroin. Following the arrest, the officers raided the suspect’s hideout located near Jalan Chengkek, where they recovered an additional 2.443kg of heroin and the remaining seized drugs.
Ongoing Investigations and Potential Penalties
Investigations into the case are currently ongoing. Under Singaporean law, anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of heroin may face the death penalty.
